Wedding Band Only?
So my SO and I have a DD and a house.. We want to get engaged but my SO doesn't have money to really be spending on a big diamond.... We really want to continue remodeling the house. As I have already been precious married- I told my SO that at this stage in my life (we are practically married anyway)- I don't want a big diamond nor do I want him spending 7k for one.. I would rather us spend the money remodeling lol So we were thinking as wedding bands are cheaper- I can get a nicer looking one and use that as an engagement ring. I'm kinda on the fence bc I feel like people are going to question us as if we are nuts and I'll always have to explain myself... I dunno... What do u guys think about this? U think it's weird? Can I wear a wedding band instead of an engagement ring without feeling stupid?

before I married DH we did renovations on 2 bathrooms. I drew the line at the kitchen after 5 yrs of dating I wanted the ring.
If you dont care just get a band. I have many friends that have a stone and only wear the band. Its just preference.
Go for it

I have both an e - ring and a wedding band. Honestly, most days I only wear my wedding band and skip the e-ring. I only wear it sometimes so dh doesn't feel bad that he spent the money on it and I don't wear it. It gets annoying wearing both of them. If I was in your situation I would absolutely just go with the wedding band.

Same here. After 25 years of marriage, nobody asks DW "Where's your engagement ring?".... they do say, however, "Nice house!"...

I have only worn my engagement ring a small handful of times since getting married. I love my wedding band and it is my sentimental piece of jewelry. I would not be too upset to lose my e-ring but would be devastated to lose my band. So I'm all for wedding band only. I think it's a smart decision.

Save the $$$ and use it for what's important to you! An e-ring is optional!! Get a band you love.

I don't wear my engagement ring cause I lost a lot of weight and it's big, plus as much as I still love my ring it's a little too much for me to run errands lol. My wedding band a stone fell out, so that's been waiting to get fixed. Basically, I don't wear anything and been married for almost 8yrs.
Wear whatever you want but as far as engagement you don't have to wear anything and can wait to wear the band when you get married. Unless it's what you want to do and if anyone ask then tell them this is my engagement /band cause that's all I need since our relationship is solid enough :)
Eta: when both my rings were ok, there was a lot of times I just wore my band.

Wedding Band Only?
You should do what works best for you. An engagement ring does not have to be a diamond ring. You could get a different stone if you wanted a more traditional engagement ring. I know a few people who choose a different stone (aquamarine, ruby, sapphire)- maybe you could get your DD birthstone.

You don't have to explani anything to anyone - Personally I think it's a HUGE waste of money if you're not going to wear it and let it sit in a drawer or a deposit box at the bank .......

This. The only people who won't get it are the ones who haven't been there yet. Having done it all, my feeling is that its all over rated  Big rings, big weddings, all a waste lol!

I agree. Everything about a wedding is overrated. I'd take the house any day over the ring!!!!!
I may the minority in that I may not get an actual wedding band though. I would feel weird wearing it and not being married. I'd provably opt for a cheaper "promise" type ring. You don't have to spend a lot but it wouldn't look like an actual wedding band either. That's just my opinion but I wouldn't want people asking me questions if I was married when I was in fact not.

I personally wouldn't wear it as an engagement ring but I see nothing wrong with only wearing wedding band once married. I would either get a promise ring or not have an engagement ring at all.

I don't wear either. I rarely wear any jewelry. No one questions me. Yes, when you announce your engagement, people will ask to see the ring. After that, no one will notice.

If you want an engagement type ring, order a CZ off amazon and just wear it until you're married.
My wedding band doesnt fit me right now because of pregnancy weight and I wear a fake I got on amazon for $5 lol

I would say do what makes you happy in life! People will talk no matter what! You get an engagement ring they talk if its too small, or they dont like your setting or even if its big...
Then they talk about your wedding band, it doesnt match your ring.Theres no diamonds, Theres a lot of diamonds hahahaha
WHO CARES?! Tune it all out go for the remodeling and make yourself happy! You and your family come first! =)
And like previous poster said get a cz if anything, but I dont really think you have to do that unless you want to and you want to ask about being engaged =)
