Re: Will my children be safe?

Honestly, I would come up with an excuse now.

It's probably not a safety issue, but personally, I don't like anyone but family staying in our home for several days.

And even that can be draining.

Also 1994 is so long ago.

People can change.....

Will my children be safe?

I would think that a co worker from 1994 who is inviting herself to your house is probably more than a co worker and more like a friend. What do the kids do when you have summer school? I would just follow that original plan. You already said yes to her staying but I course you can always say no and say its because you don't want yr ex making a big deal etc.,

She is looking for a free place to stay. That is all.
The comfort of your children is more important than anything - make excuses now. Your schedule changed, something.

My German cousins try to fish for invites all the time. My sis and I never take the bait. We are not close and they were never around when we visited Germany.as often as we did.

Re: Will my children be safe?

I don't think you owe her an explanation.

The shorter you keep it, the easier it is to avoid sounding like you're lying.

"OMG I'm sooooooooooooo sorry, but I totally realized I am out of town myself for a few days. I'm going to have to back out on the invite".

I also agree she is looking for a free place to stay, and what may turn into food/activities, meals out....

NY is expensive, and we too are on a limited income.

It adds up when we have house guests.

Will my children be safe?

Ok if her own family doesn't feel comfortable having her in their house when they aren't home, why should you?!?!

Say your ex isn't comfortable with it and you don't want to cause problems. You would be happy to meet up a&d get together but unfortunately staying with you isn't an option.

Will my children be safe?

If your children don't feel comfortable with the arrangements, she needs to make other plans. They are your first priority, not some woman you haven't seen in 20 years.

I agree, just use your ex as an excuse to take the blame off you.

Re: Will my children be safe?

Absolutely weird and I think it's a hazard. You really do NOT know this person well enough to have them and their child in your home, with your children and your possessions.

I would also be highly concerned that she may not leave, and one week could turn into a much longer nightmare.

If my kids said they would be uncomfortable, that would be th deciding factor for me... And I would openly say that as the reason.

Re: Will my children be safe?

I wold DEF use the Ex-DH as an excuse! I am married I would still use my DH as an excuse - so the Ex is an even better excuse!

good luck! That is a tough one!

But do it sooner rather than later so she can make other plans!

I also find it very nervy to invite to sleep over for a whole week...a night maybe .. but a week?!!

When we visited friends over feb break in Nashville - We stayed in a hotel nearby - we would never want to impose a family of five on a family of 4

Will my children be safe?

WOW!

I see no safety issue (your kids seem old enough) and I think its good they meet someone new from another place not the US and learn something out of it.

I don't give my personal number to just 'coworkers' or people. And if they had it, I would think I'd know them well enough to let them stay. If I didn't like them as coworkers, I would have said no from the get go or at least "let me think about it" if I was caught off guard.

Its 3 hours tops a day? I think I wouldn't have hesitated. Its a nice gesture and good to keep in touch. Who knows maybe you can crash at her place one day in the future. Take the kids on a overseas trip.

Its a parent and an 8yr old. I am sorry but I don't see the safety issue for your children. If anything maybe your 9yr gets a new friend.

But it seems I am WAY in minority on this, but shared my thoughts only because who knows .. maybe one day one of us is in the same situation.

Heck I don't know most of you guys here but if you needed to spend the night at my place in San Antonio with a kid, I'd offer the room (if I had one!) or the couch if you're willing. ha!

I agree with this too. It is their home and what she is asking you for is very ballsy, to say the least. I wouldn't feel the at all bad telling her your kids are uncomfortable.
