sunblock and chemicals
I've been reading so much about how most sunscreens contain dangerous chemicals. I have been trying to do research on my own but I am so confused!
Just wondering if you have read the same and if you have or are planning to switch to an organic sunscreen?
Just looking for opinions/advice on whether you are concerned about it for your own family?
Also, if you have changed, what brand are you now using?

sunblock and chemicals
I used Badger-it's organic and I just felt more comfortable using that for my DS. I use it myself too sometimes.

I don't know - I just can't get on board w/ that one ..........
the result of NOT wearing sunscreen are far worse than the 'chemicals' in the sunscreen .......
So I lather them up - I usually use Coppertone or Neutrogena.

I burn very easily. Dd has my skin. The only one that is a guarantee for me is target 70. Ill take chemicals over burns in this instance. Jmo.

i think it is absolutely frightening to think of slathering chemicals onto our children that absorb into their skin. i just switched to badger because of this. safe mama suncreeen cheat sheet

I use Coppertone Water Babies Pure and Simple.
It has a good rating on that site, it does not contain that one ingrediant that is questionable, and it is zinc based which is very good.
I like that it's affordable, easier bought at Target or CVS, and I like that it goes on white so I can see where I missed.
It has to be the Pure and Simple though, not the regular water babies. There is a difference

I only use Badger, for me and the kids. Yes, the effects of sun damage are bad. But what are the effects of the chemicals? Do they even know? I'm willing to bet they are as bad, and probably even worse.

While I am concerned about the chemicals (there has to be a reason we don't put sunblock on babies under 6 months of age), I am also concerned about sun damage. I alternate between badger, babyganics, and neutrogena pure and free depending on the situation.

Never even noticed that but all our Coppertone Water Babies do say "pure and simple"
Got a bunch of them cheap at Christmas Tree Shops. I keep them all over. One in the beach bag (I have a small bag in the beach bag just for the sunscreen, baby powder and bug spray), one in the closet by the garage door to lather up before going outside, mini one in the diaper bag, and one in the drawers in our outside bar by the pool.

We only use badger too. I go by ewg website for all of dd's products. Shampoo, soap, diaper cream, wipes, and lotion. I've started using it for myself too and it's really annoying how some organic/natural products I've used for years don't rate that great. So I am in the process of changing over. FYI a lot of chemicals they use in our products today were NOT used 20, 30, or 50 years ago. Neutrogena from 1950 was a lot more pure than it is today.

I put the kids in rash guards & under shade as much as possible. The rash guards have long sleeves. This is the best thing IMO.
I then use the poisonous, highly effective sunscreens on their faces.
Call me a skeptic, but all sunscreens have chemicals... call them minerals or chemicals and when I read the ingredients, most are the same (zinc oxide based, paba free, etc.)

Actually, that is because babies that age to not sweat like we do and the sunblock can cause over heating by blocking the heat in, nothing to do with the chemicals. 
I researched it last year cause DS was under 6 months all summer!

We use the same. It works well and our sensitive skin tolerates it well.

Natures Gate and Badger are both great. FYI, people worry about the long term side effects of these products, so you or your dc being fine now does not negate people's concerns.

This. I don't really worry about it. It's not like it's 365 days a year. Just when we're out in the sun. I also believe some sun is healthy, so if we're only going for a walk in the afternoon, I don't apply sunscreen. (Obviously I would never let her get a burn, but I'm not fanatical about it.)

Yes you're all fine now. But what about decades into the future? When I was a pre-teen/teen I used to slather myself with coppertone kids. Now I have hashimotos disease. Absolutely no one in my family has it, it was probably caused by environmental influences specifically immune system disrupters which coppertone kids as well as a whole list of products I used for the majority of my life contains. Chemicals are bad for you, it's a fact not an opinion and because of this I choose to try and use the most "safe" products I can find for me and my family.

I may be in the minority here, but I don't use sunscreen on a daily basis for me or DS. We are always walking around outside or going to the park (as opposed to sunning ourselves at the beach, in which case I would put protection on). However, I think daily exposure to any sort of chemical outweighs the risk of being in indirect sun for a few minutes or hours per day. Plus, kids need their vitamin D from the sun and not just supplements.
That being said, if we were going to the pool or the beach for a few hours, I would absolutely use badger or california baby.
