seats on plane and 2 year old
I was wondering if anyone has flown recently internationally with American Airlines- are you required to bring a car seat on the plane as a seat for your 2 year old? I'm trying to read through their website, but it isn't clear whether it is mandatory or not. I don't ever remember seeing any baby on a flight in a car seat on the plane...but at the same time if this is some new mandatory measure they are taking, I don't want to be denied boarding either...Thanks!

We fly American all the time, it is not mandatory to have a car seat on the plane for your child.

You have to purchase a seat on the plane but you are not legally required to use a car seat. It is, however, strongly suggested to use one and can make the trip much easier for many children. If you are bringing a seat, I always suggest using it on the plane so that the seat isn't lost or damaged (a friend just the other day sent her DH and child on a flight and gate checked the seat.. they got off, the seat kept going to the next destination and they had to scramble to get the child a seat. And they aren't gentle with seats, even when tehy;re in those bags)

As a side note, I just flew American with my 20 month old and I have never had so many issues with an airline. Despite the fact that I spoke with no less than 5 people, my DD was still not listed on the flight when I arrived at the airport. Not to mention the fact that they re-scheduled our flights and did not notify us. I hope you have a better experience.
