Dh and I haven't had a date night in 2 1/2 years, but with the babysitters I have available, it would be more stressful than relaxing , so I dont see any dates in our future Chat Icon

Same here. I feel like I get nothing out of it and we are just rushing home.
Plus I'm kind of cynical and always feel like, we're married, we aren't DATING anymore.
I just can't get into it.

I literally JUST read this! And actually, DH and I are going for dinner and a show tonight. Could not agree with this article more--if I didn't have our nights out alone to look forward to, I'd have a nervous breakdown!

We are very lucky to have a wonderful babysitter (and just added a new one) and I always tell people they are worth every single penny. Unfortunately, we usually end up using them more for events like weddings and stuff, but now that we have the back-up, I'm hoping to do more true date-nights. I disagree with the once a week thing though...I don't know how many can really manage that; seems like a lot...I think even 1x a month is awesome!

I agree-once a week is a lot. Once a month sounds good to me!

I don't know your situation, but I'm telling you...find a new babysitter! Years back (DC are 8, 7, 3.5) we only had grandparents and it was more stressful for many reasons. Now we pay and the stress is gone...

I completely agree! Once a week is a little much, but DH and I do try to go out at least once a month. We have several reliable babysitters that we use and most of them are neighbors. The added bonus is that their parents are right across the street so I feel like there's an added layer of security.

Really??

OMG!!!.............I LIVE for Date Night!!

It doesn't happen often but when we do go out alone we LOVE it. It's so nice to be able to focus on just each other and have a conversation without being interrupted 4000 times OR to eat without having to cut up someone else's food first OR barely getting to eat my own mean because I'm constantly dealing with the kids.

We've been together 23 years but I still love "going on a date" with my DH. It's just nice to have a night where for a few hours you aren't just "Mommy" and "Daddy" but a grown up doing grown up things.

About a month ago we did our first overnight getaway and went to Mohegan Sun for two days. We saw a concert while we were there, had nice meals, slept in.......the works. I was SO hesitant about it because I never left the kids but it was the BEST thing I ever did. It felt good to have the break and I came home feeling a little more recharged.

Time alone as a couple is so important. There was a time before kids where it was just you and DH and your kids won't be around in your house forever, one day it'll just be the two of you again so you need to keep nurturing your relationship and make time for the two of you. Chat Icon

We go out a lot. Some months more than others. Sometimes we have an awesome time and do not want to go home. Other times we are just wondering what we should do:)

It was great. I'm sure it won't happen again for a long time though but I'm glad I did it and saw that the kids could survive without me. It was a nice break, much needed.

I also live for date night. Once every month or two. It is important for us to have this time together. Otherwise I get very burnt out - and i know that is not good for my DS! We did two nights away a couple weeks ago and although it was nerve racking at first, we unwound and had a fabulous time. Now i cant wait for the next trip!!!

I love date night too! We just had one last weekend. We went to Dave & Buster's and had so much fun being silly and playing games Chat Icon

Once a week is definitely a lot, but here's what we do. Every Friday night after we put the kids to bed DH goes to get take out and we eat alone and watch a movie. It's like date night in our house! Of course, our kids are young (3 and 8 months), so it works now, but probably not so much when they are older.

Haaa, last "date night" involved dropping off DD next door to play for a few hours. What did we do? We didn't go out. We ordered take out, layed on the couch and watched a movie uninterrupted, no kids shows, no bothers. It was grand!

Re: Article on Date Nights

we live for date nights too. Love them. If I didn't have them, I'd go nuts, especailly as a sahm. I've left my kids overnigth numerous times, with the grandparents, and we pay teenage sitters for random nights. My sitters are super busy so It's a little annoying.

My dh would go out 1 time a week if we could. Me I like 2 times a month. We try different restaurants and go to our favorite bar in town for a drink or 2 after. They are opening a movie theater this summer so that will be really nice. We are rarely home after midnight, as we still those little ones the next morning Chat Icon , so it's no fun to drink to much lol but it's so worth every penny we pay them.

Article on Date Nights

DD is 15 weeks old tomorrow and we've had 2 date nights and 1 night with friends w/ no babies. Once a week doesn't sound feasible nor would I even want to go out without her that often. Once a month sounds perfect!

I looooooove date night! We have 3 kids ages 4 and under and another on the way so we only go maybe once/month at most since money is tight.

I'm a weirdo and I always like putting my kids to bed so we don't go until 8:30 and then we don't have to worry about anything with the kids since they are sleeping the whole time we're gone. I live for those nights! We get to relax, have a kid-free non-rushed dinner and reconnect! We can drink a little, eat some sushi and just be together.

Yes, date nights are a must!!! I'm so grateful to have my parents nearby as occasional babysitters. We just went out last sat to a concert. It's nice to reconnect Chat Icon

Us too. I always put the kids to bed then we go out. Usually 8/8:30 as well. It's so much easier and less worry if they are going to give a hard time or not etc. My younger dd woke up once but she was able to get back to sleep.

It's nice to go out with DH without my DD but maybe it's the whole cheese of calling it a "date" that I don't care for.
We are married. It's not a date.
If I found myself a boyfriend, then yeah, that's a "date"!

See, this may be a reason I don't feel the need for frequent date nights either- I work full time, travel a lot for work, go out for expensive dinners and events in NYC. I get a TON of adult time and kid free time.
So I really do enjoy the free time I DO have WITH my DD and DH.
If I were a SAHM I am SURE my tune would be different!
Chat Icon
But I get a ton of adult time as it is...maybe too much!!

It's so important to have a night out with your SO every once in awhile. Once the kids are all grown and out of the house it will just be the 2 of us. You gotta keep the romance alive! Chat Icon Chat Icon
