Mom's whose kids have had tubes

So DS has had tubes for about 7 months. Hes under the weather currently and we took him to his ped who told us his right ear tube had moved.

We were able to get an appt with the ENT and they confirmed it was in the canal and to follow up in 6 weeks - to determine if he needs it put back in or not...

So the question is - has anyone experienced this? What did you do OR what would you do.

The tubes have been a god send and he hasn't had any infections thank god... so I guess I am just worried now...

DS is 18months

They push out. The whole they put in the ear drum wants to heal up and the tubes are meant to push out. Sometimes they come out too early and they have to put them back in. My friend's son had it done 3 times before they moved to the "T" shaped one to keep it in. It really isn't that big of a deal. But its good you are on top of it so he doesn't suffer from infections needlessly.

AJ got hers at 17m one fell out but stayed in the canal for over a year. Sometimes they just get wedged in a bump and wax and stick around. LOL ENT finally fished it out after waiting for it to move out on its own. Painless and simple.

Good Luck!

Re: Mom's whose kids have had tubes

We were just told last month that DS' tubes are on their way out, but he has had them in for over a year now. Our ENT said they normally fall out between 6m and 2 years after they are put in, so while 7 months is on the early side I guess it's not entirely unexpected. When DS' tubes do come out, the ENT said it's just a waiting game to see if the ear infections start coming back again. He hasn't had any since he got the tubes so I'm hoping it will continue. He's also almost 4 years old, so he's a lot older than your DC. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Re: Mom's whose kids have had tubes

my sons tubes were coming loose, ENT took one out (it wasn't touching the eardrum so it didn't hurt). The other one is touching the ear drum so he is waiting til it loosens more or isn't touching the ear drum and can come out. They will then wait to see if he has infections or not... if not then no more tubes, if so we will determine if tubes need to be put back in...

Thanks ladies - sorry for the late response...
Yeah I guess I am worried about this waiting that the ENT wants us to do.
With everything we went through before the tubes - I guess I am paranoid...
From all the ear infections in such a short amount of time and all the antibiotics - he got C-diff. Not fun and not something I am looking to repeat.

He has had a fever and a cough that just wont go away - so I think I am just on edge...

DH said we need to at lease a couple of weeks before we push to see the ENT earlier than the 6 weeks...

We will see - Thnx!
