Baby clothes- size question

What size baby clothes did you prefer to receive as a gift when you first had your baby?

I'm buying a gift for my neighbor who just had a baby. Should I get a newborn outfit or do you think she probably has a ton of that size and could use bigger sizes for the months ahead?

Thanks.

Baby clothes- size question

Def something they could grow into. We had so much nb and 3 month stuff. I would do 6 month probably, but make sure it's season appropriate for when they would be in that size.

I tend to buy 6 or 9 month stuff. I didn't get much newborn so I bought a few things after my shower and when she was born bc we used that for over a month. I had soooo much 3 month stuff it was ridiculous, even after I exchanged what I could.

Baby clothes- size question

I got a lot of 3-6 month clothes but not too many nb clothes. I ended up having to buy NB clothes b/c DD was a peanut and fit into NB clothes until she was 10w old!

Keep in mind that if you buy bigger clothes, that you get the right season. Like DD was born in March but someone got me a Valentines Day outfit that was size 3 months. It wasn't even worth returning b/c it had been on clearance.

Baby clothes- size question

I needed to go right out and buy my dd nb sleepers bc the 3m stuff was swimming on her! So either that route or the 6m size.... I had way too much 3m clothes... Lots of stuff she wore maybe once!

ITA, I rec'd tons of 0-3 stuff so anything 6 months + would be good.

I received tons of 0-3 and 3 months, plus a descent amount of 6 mos. The 0-3 and 3 months are huge on her so I had to go and buy NB sizes…I would say either NB or 6+ months, but like others said, make sure season appropriate.

Baby clothes- size question

I received way too many NB and 0-3 months. I exchanged what I could but even still there is no way my DS will fit into those sizes long enough to wear everything. I would have preferred if I got more 6 months+ stuff. No matter what you do I would say don't cut the tags off (people did this to me to make cute clothes lines and baskets and such but then I couldn't do returns!) and give a gift receipt so the mom can change sizes if need be.

I wouldn't go too big because you really don't know how big the baby will be and how fast they will grow. We had some really nice things that I didn't return because I thought DD would be at the right size to wear them, but they turned out to be completely the wrong season. Also, you have to store it and remember to take it out at the right time...just buy something you think is really cute and make sure to give a gift receipt.

Re: Baby clothes- size question

We got so much clothing that was purchased "ahead" for DS, so 3, 6, even 18 month sizes and so many of them never fit DS when he reached that size. He only got 1 NB size outfit, and I wished I had gotten a few more. The 3 month outfits, though, did fit DS during the correct season, so those were a good gift. Also, the size 18 months were bought so far in advance that I had basically forgotten we had it when he reached that size. So basically I'm saying it's ok to buy ahead...just not SO far ahead. And include a gift receipt, too!

Re: Baby clothes- size question

The bigger the better IMO. The baby will get more use out of it that way.
