It wouldn't be offended.
I think that people in general associate any state of undress as being sexual - maybe it's the puritan roots this country has. So some people don't see a woman feeding her child - they see breast. I don't know if this is true - just guessing.

Definately not. But I do have a funny story. I work at a school and during a meeting, this woman had 4 kids with her, the youngest being about 18 months. He was crying so she just says excuse me and calls him over. I thought to give him a toy or bottle.
But no, she grabs her shirt, lifts out a boob bigger than my head and shoves it in his mouth as he stand beside her sucking on it. I thought I was going to hurl.  I mean I saw it all- nipple and breast the whole time he was eating. She was not a small woman by any means. It took all my professionalism to continue.

I see no offense in it at all. As someone said - what are boobs for - thats IS their primary function - to feed a baby.
We live in a very puritanical society where women are made to feel their breasts should never be seen in public - no matter what the situation - even something as natural as breastfeeding, whereas a man can walk around shirtless whereever he pleases - what a disgusting double standard.

I wouldn't be offended but I do agree that it should be done discreetly. I was out a restaurant with a friend of my sisters and in the middle of eating she began to bf, with no blanket or anything. It made most of the people at the table very uncomfortable.

OK, here is how I see it. If the kid is 18-24 months, able to walk over lift up the shirt and grab the boob, it is time to WEAN, IMHO. That story reminded me of the desparate housewoves episode where that lady who worked with Lynette had her son BFing at 5years old and everyone was bothered by it.

if a blanket is covering her and the childs mouth, it wouldnt bother me at all..
if you are discreet its fine! if you are popping your boob out for the world to see, that makes me a little ill to be honest.

I just wanted to say that I would have loved to be able to BF my baby instead of pumping everyday, 3 times a day as I have been doing for almost 7 months now. Had he been able to BF I would have my bosoms out at any opportunity to feed the kid. I'm not shy!!! I would give my eye teeth to have been able to BF the kid!
Where I live the mall is full of ladies BF'ing on benches, in Starbucks, in the park...where ever they happen to be when the baby needs to eat.
So I feel quite jealous when I see ladies BF'ing in public.

i have to say BF'ing in public does not offend me. yes, if you can see everything, i think that just makes people uncomfortable.
i agree with mel on the naked chicks at the locker room. i hate that, i know we are all comforable around each other, but i don't need to see ta-ta's and i really don't need to see down there.....some woman have no shame

I agree with this. An infant, fine...but I have seen this, like a 3 year old walk up to mom, pull up the shirt and start snacking away. I think that's inappropriate. I don't care what you do at home..but that's a little bit much for public. JMO

I would never be offended. When I see a woman who is BF, I instantly think good for her. I am sure she was not an exhibistionist before hand, she is feeding her baby. Maybe the baby doesn't want a blanket draped over his face. which ever way is most effective, I am all for.
I am almost for sure God would have a good laugh about all this. That is what boobs are for.

I completely disagree. Why should a women have to sit for the 10 minutes and pump out milk, bring a bottle, ice packs & then figure out a way to warm up the bottle because people can't deal.
I pumped at work & breastfed at home. Let me tell you - having a machine literally pull at your nipple until milk comes out is no picnic. Once you've pumped then tell us what is easier or a good idea.
Couldn't have said it better myself! Until you're in the situation, I don't think it's your place to judge what a woman should do. Pumping hurts like HELL, it really does, and even if you pump, some women have an oversupply, so if they (ahem... myself) go for 2+hours without BFing, it becomes extremely painful, so even if I brought a bottle with me, it was useless for ME. Mind you, I'm enormously modest so I never BFed in front of anyone - only DH, that's it. But, I give a tremendous amount of credit to women who do BF in public, albeit discreetly. I think it all boils down to the fact that this country needs to loosen up a little...

I see far more offensive things in the course of a day than a woman breast feeding a baby - even if I got the full show.
I am not a mom, and I am not extremely comfortable with my body, but this is one case where I really don't think I would have a problem letting it all hang out, so to speak.
