Spinoff to Care.com
They do background checks? Criminal history? job history?
Can you post your experience with it? Can you advise me of any questions I should ask? What should I include in my post if I need something like a mothers helper for when I work from home?
I am living in a new city and need some extra help and need a babysitter for when dh and I would like a night out =) hehe
Does anyone know if Angies list is good for this? Im a member of that too.

Re: Spinoff to Care.com
I posted ads on both there and Sitter City and ended up hiring someone from Sitter City. The sites are similar. What we did was reach out to several people who seemed like a good match, and a bunch of others messaged us. The ones that seemed pretty qualified got an interview at our house and met our DS. Once I checked the references for the one we wanted to hire, I paid for the basic background check through the site (I think it was $50) because I felt it was worth it to me to run it. The sitter I hired was new to the site, so she hadn't paid for one and I knew she would be good, so I was willing to pay for it in order to get her to commit to work for us. Also, I leaned toward hiring someone who worked in a school or had school or daycare center experience since those people often have to get background checks for work.
She was with us for an entire school year and was fantastic!

Re: Spinoff to Care.com
Here's a link with questions to ask when interviewing for nannies or baby sitters.
Care.com does a basic background check but you can pay for a more thorough one. We did it, and I'd recommend doing it. It checks criminal history. For job history, you will have to do that yourself by calling references.
