Night formula feedings

When my other kids were babies we lived in a ranch style house with 1 floor. Now we have a 2 floor colonial. I prefer to do night feedings in mine or the baby's bedroom and as quickly and smoothly as possible so as to avoid waking my school aged children.

I have been buying the similac nursettes (those little 2 oz bottles) but my 2 week old is already taking in over 3 ounces so i do end up dumping 1/2 to 1 full ounce. The nursettes are a bit pricey for my situation. I would prefer to just use the ready to feed big jugs which I do during the day. I would love to hear how others handle night feedings as far as do you go downstairs and warm the bottle and let the baby cry? I would prefer she not cry too long right now as she is only 2 weeks old and again I want to try to keep my other kids sleeping. Can I take a refrigerated bottle filled with 3 ounces of formula just sit out on my night stand and maybe 3 or 4 hours later when the baby wakes it will be room temperature? I believe if you warm them up you have to dump them after 1 hour. My ranch had one benefit!

In our house - dh goes down and heats the bottle and I go into the baby and change. If that is not an option how about putting the bottle in a cooler bag and when baby wakes up warm it up in the bathroom sink with hot water in a cup while you change the baby.

I buy the powder and put it in a 3 compartment powder holder. Then I put water in the bottle and when he needs a bottle I just mix the 2 together.

I would go down and mix a bottle. Room temp bottled water with powder formula. No need to heat.

And yup he would cry while I was malign it.

I used RTF. I would just go downstairs and heat it up and then go upstairs to get the baby.

I used this. You store a bottle and an ice pack in the back. When you need to use it in the middle of the night, you take out the bottle and warm it up. I would change her and by the time I was done, the bottle was warmed and ready to go. It was awesome!!!

Some good ideas thank you! I have an extra lunch bag I got for my DD1 that has not been used. I may throw in a clean ice pack and a bottle. Will keep a large mug in the kid's bathroom, put in some hot water and let the bottle sit in it while I change the baby's diaper. I appreciate the ideas... I'm too tired to think straight, lol.

You could also get a small bottle warmer for upstairs.

I'm in the same boat with my nearly 2-week old. What I've been doing is taking the nursette 2-oz and pouring it into a Dr. Browns bottle and then adding 1-oz from another nursette. He finishes it and for the next feed, I do the same thing.

As long as the baby doesn't drink directly from the nursette it's safe to re-use over an hour.

I found DS did better with the over night feeds using the Dr Browns bottles rather than the nursettes. I think he was taking in too much air from the nursettes and was agitated and the reason I transferred.

I used the RTF, had them ready in the fridge for the night and used the mircowave to heat a tubberware of water..id place the bottle in the water. Ive heard of people using a mini fridge or cooler and putting it into a crockpot of warm water at night

I used the rtf and gave it to DS cold. he always had his formula cold. unless DH was feeding him.

I would store the bottle with an ice pack to bring up with you when you go to bed and buy an inexpensive bottle warmer for upstairs. Warm it up while you change the baby - takes 3 minutes.

IMO running it under hot water will only get the outside of the bottle somewhat warm...the formula will still be cold.

Mine. But lately my son has just been drinking them cold from the fridge. He gets hot so easily I think of it like a cold beverage.

We brought everything upstairs to warm the bottle. Next time around id use room temp water and powder. But with dd we had the sm rtf bottles. A bottle cooler to store unused portion until the next day. I would change the baby as the bottle warmed up. Room temp water would've been so much easier!
