A vent about kissing little ones on the lips

DH's family does this. They all kiss on the lips and I personally have always hated it. When my nephew was a baby DH kissed him on the lips. My sister was upset so I explained to him that my family doesn't do that and he should only kiss him on the cheek. That was like 8 years ago when we were dating. DH knows how I feel about this. I've asked him to tell his family. Today at a family event we're all saying goodbye and his mom, sister, brother, sister in law, and even sister in laws aunt all proceed to kiss her on the lips. DD was sick yesterday with a fever and has a cold. I just said well now you'll all have a fever and cold tomorrow. We walked away and DH says I could feel your anxiety during that. I told him to tell his family how I feel and he says he has but that's how they are. Well we're heading back there tonight. Do I say something or will I be the crazy one? I personally think he should say something again since it's his family.

Re: A vent about kissing little ones on the lips

I HATE when people kiss children on the lips. Its really just a germ thing for me and I read somewhere once way before I had ds that most people who have herpes on their mouths get it before they are 10 usually from family members. So needless to say I also wont share drinking glasses.

Since you said something to your husband and he didnt say anything I would have to say something. If you are uncomfortable with it you shouldn't just have to deal with it because thats how his family is.

I hate that as well and while I don't encounter that on either side I still don't want them kissed on and stuff lol. I try and just hold my younger one and yell kinda around everyone " can you wave bye bye, blow kisses, say night night". And that usually stops them all and tries to get her to all those things (she's 1). Well get the one or 2 that have to kiss her ( cheek) but it's stops some if the germs.

I find kissing on lips so gross. Why must 15 people do that? I'll never understand.

I personally don't do it or like it. I have no issue with others kissing their own kids on the lips though. I would just say something when you see them do this. I wouldn't care if I looked crazy to them. Of they say "we always do it" just way well my family and I don't.

Kissing my OWN children on the lips, I have no problem with. I'm a SAHM so there are germs everywhere. Chat Icon

I would NEVER kiss someone else's child or be comfortable with someone kissing my children on the lips.

That just skeeves me. I come from a kissy family as does Dh but its on the cheek. I'd say something if Dh didn't or if family wasn't listening.

I don't see a problem with it. But to each there own. If it bothers you that much then you should say something. If you don't you may not want to keep putting you and your children out there. I hope it works out.

I love to kiss my DD on the lips, and I don't mind if DH does. But I feel that right is reserved for the parents. parents only. I HATE HATE HATE that MIL always tries to kiss her on the lips or even cheeks even when she doesn't greet her own son like that!! I get annoyed too. I also try to do the wave bye bye blow a kiss thing but MIL just grabs her or shoves me aside and gets in DDs face. infuriating.

I personally don't like it when someone (other than DH or I) kiss DD on the lips, but it doesn't bother me to the point where I would say something to someone (unless of course it was an inappropriate kiss). That's just me. I pick my battles and this is not one I choose to fight. HOWEVER, if it is for you, then you should fight it! Chat Icon

Oh no no I don't like this at all. I told my mom from the beginning no kissing on the lips. I know she would do it if I don't make a big deal about it. I would have your husband say something to his family but not in a mad or mean manner. Good luck!

Re: A vent about kissing little ones on the lips

I don't think it should be your DH to be the one to tell them. No need to put him in the middle. If you have an issue with it, you should be the one to say it.

ETA: I think the above should hold true for this issue and most issues. For your DH, getting drawn into the issue might bring up bigger issues with his family and lead to him experiencing pressure, etc when in reality he doesn't have anything to do with it (in this case the kissing doesn't bother him). It can be better resolved if you just tell his family that you do not want them kissing your DD on the lips.

So we get to sister in law's house yesterday. I was talking to his mom and DH's sister kisses DD on the lips and I hear DH say, "oh, you can't kiss her on the lips anymore. You can kiss her cheek, but not on the lips." Way to deal with it gently DH! I immediately felt coldness from his sister and I'm sure she didn't like it, but oh well.

Whatevs. She will get over it. My DH handles stuff like this too. No subtly at all and he makes us both look bad. Lol

Definitely the way my DH would deal with it also, hate when he does that!
Oh well, hopefully it will stop now.
I personally hate it also & cringe when I see anyone kissing a kid on the lips- don't know why, just how I feel about it.
