Yellow eye discharge

My DD has a stomach virus. She threw up yesterday several times, but was fine today. She has diarrhea but is drinking fluids and even ate a little today (oatmeal, plain pasta). She has a fever which is controlled by ibuprofen. When she woke up from a nap today, she had yellow discharge in her eye. Is this common with viruses? I'm not familiar with it, as my older DS never had this. Is this something that needs eyedrops or can it go away on it's own?

My DD had a bad cold over the summer and she had some discharge coming out of her eyes. I don't exactly remember the color but I think it was yellow. I read that if they are really congested it can come out the eyes like that. It went away on it's own for my DD.

Thanks! I don't want to take her in to the doctor's office if I don't have to.

Any kind of discharge from the eyes sounds like conjunctivitis/pink eye to me. I would call the ped and describe what you are seeing and ask them. If it's pink eye she will need eye drops to get rid of it. It's very contagious.

It's normal in kids when they are fighting a virus or infection. Still call your doctor, mine doesn't make us come in, just calls in a prescription for drops.
