baby in the burbs?

I am expecting #2 but when #1 was little we lived in the city so we had different needs. Looking for advice on a few items we didnt have the first time around.

This time around we need an infant carseat (we had a hand-me-down for my DS since we didnt own a car and only used it a handful of times but I think it is probably expired by now). Recommendations? What features should I be looking for? How long do you use it for?

We also likely want to get a high-chair. With DS we had a space-saver kind that strapped onto a kitchen chair, but now that we have more space I think I want a full-sized one. Recommendations? What features should I be looking for?

With DS we had one stroller, an uppababy vista which we loved and still love. But, we didnt have to worry about going in/out of cars constantly, we just rolled it out of our apt. We can buy an adaptor for it that will let an infant carseat attach on. Will we probably be fine with just that one stroller?

Also, are there any new (within past 3 years) and totally awesome baby items out there that I might not be aware of? TYIA

For the infant car seat you want to choose one that fits for your car. I really like the Chicco key fit since it fits into most cars even smaller ones.

I had both a space saver highchair and a stand alone. I really prefer the stand alone. We had the Chicco poly which is nice but my parents have the fisher price EZ clean which is so easy to clean and it's light weight.

I personally loved the snap and go for the infant seat. For my second dd I left her on the infant seat for a long time because I loved the snap and go so much . They are very reasonable and I always see them on Craig's lost for dirt cheap. I think it's a great idea to get one.

Not sure if you had a rock n play with your first but I think that is one of the best baby items out there. I know they were fairly new 3 years ago.

I loved the maxi cosi infant seat. I had it set to snap into the uppababy vista. I am in the minority here but I hated the uppababy. The frame was so heavy and my mother could never get it to close. Dd never once even laid in the bassinet. I would get the lightest snap and go you can find. And then save your uppababy for when dc is older and you go on long walks or whatnot. I have the uppababy g-lite and I like that a lot bc it is so light. But it is an umbrella stroller.

For the high chair I returned my peg pergo bc my girlfriend told me it was hard to clean and the cloth straps got gross. I got a maxi cosi (forgot the name) bc literally everything on it even the straps are rubber and wipe clean. It's so easy to keep clean too.

New and cool toys, I swear by the fisher price kick n play piano. Dd starting from 7weeks laid on it and would kick the piano part with her feet. It entertained her and got her to "move" and get some energy out.

Chicco infant seats are great for a number of reasons. They are compact and great for even small newborns because they will keep the harness straps at or below their shoulders from birth (which is where they should be placed. Some infant seats have higher slots as theeir lowest ones and that wont always fit a tiny newborn)

I would get a snap and go too if you cant find an adapter for the uppa. You can get a buggy board for the back for your older one to stand on too!!

I swear by a rock and play ever since DD2 slept in one from 2-6.5 months.It was a lifesaver for her reflux!! I bought one for a friend who didnt have it on her registry and she loves it!!

For DS we had the chicco keyfit 30, we used it until he was about 8 months when he was getting too big for it. But it was nice to have, we used a snap and go with it.

For Highchair we have a graco one, it also came with a booster seat to use when out and about.

Also the FP rock n play sleeper is good to have in case your LO does not take to the bassinet at first (like mine didn't).

If you have the room I recommend the graco 4 in 1 high chair. My kid is nuts in the high chair and he's yet to manage to knock it over which says a lot about the chair.

For the carseat you really can't go wrong with the graco snugride or chicco keyfit. Check them out at BBB and BRU and see which one you prefer. We used our infant seat until DS was 8 months old.

Thanks everyone. It looks like I have some carseats and highchairs to look into now!

We actually do have the RNP sleeper from my DS. We found it really useful, he napped in there sometimes, sat in there when we ate meals when he was little, and we brought it to family when we visited for a safe place to sit him before he was mobile.

I would get a infant car seat that is compatable with your particular car. We have the graco snugride and are happy with it.

We have an uppa baby vista. We live in an apartment in bayside so that stroller stays folded in the car. I love the vista even if I have to fold it and unfold it whenever we go in and out of the car. It isnt that hard to do. I would just get an adapter for the particular infant car seat you buy.

We have the svan highchair and I love it. it is from infant to toddler. DS is 3.5 and still sits on it. At this point, it is just a perfectly sized chair for him. When he was an infant, it had a detachable tray. Now that DD is an infant, we are preparing DS that DD will use it, but he is having none of that. I think we may need to buy another one for her.
