Mother's day problems
No....only bc my mom passed away and both me and my dh are not on speaking terms with his mother.
We are having breakfast with his stepmother and father Saturday morning and I wanted Sunday to be just me, dh and my dd. It's my first Mother's Day as a mom and it's always an emotional day having lost my mom.

Mother's day problems
I am lucky - we all celebrate it together. We usually have a nice brunch at my moms and then spend the afternoon gardening and enjoying some wine. My MIL and mom get along really well so its nice that we can all be together.

Re: Mother's day problems
No, we have celebrated it together since we've been married. This way he sees his mom and I see my mom.

Re: Mother's day problems
not really... my MIL lives about 5 hours away, and my mom lives like 2 hours away.... so its impossible to see both of them on that day. because my mom lives closer and its doable for a day trip, we usually see her on mother's day. DH and DS usually do breakfast for me at home, and we spend the morning just the 3 of us, then head down to my moms house for the afternoon/ early dinner. so I feel like I get "my" celebration in the morning, and then still get to celebrate my mom, too. MIL we usually see sometime around mother's day for a visit, since its a long trip. This year, we're gonna see them the first weekend in june- in between mothers day and fathers day and celebrate both then.

Re: Mother's day problems
Yes. Usually we split up, but this year is my first mother's day. What we decided to do is take MIL out to dinner Saturday and then spend Sunday with my mom.

Mother's day problems
Ugh yes. Usually DH would go be with his mom and I'd go and be with my mom, aunt, and grandmother. This is my first mother's day and as much as I don't want to be, I'm stuck hosting a brunch/bbq so everyone can be together. I'm not really looking forward to it. I just wanted to relax and spend time with DD and instead she's going to be passed around to everyone

We celebrate it together and we host it. I spoke up when I first became a mom and actually continue to do so. You are just as much a mom as all of the older mothers are.

This is exactly what I'm afraid of happening with my husbands family. They always steal my son away from each other (like I will give him to my BIL and my SIL will take him after two mins) and they don't give him back to me when I ask.
I haven't talked about it with my husband yet but I just wanna go do something the three of us.

Mother's day problems
We prevent this by going out to eat with my mom, MIL, and grandma. We just celebrate everyone at once.

Mother's day problems
Yes I'm struggling since I feel that it should be my one day to not have to see my DH family. I have 2 kids and I'm pregnant with my 3rd and want to be selfish and make the day about me and my mom. We have plans to eat at the Venetian in Babylon at 2 so I figured I would stop by and drop off flowers for my MIL early in the morning since DH is working till 12. Problem is when will my DH see her, his family will be in Babylon at his uncle's house and I have no desire to go. I just want to relax and that means being with my family.

I do brunch with my mom, then my DH takes our DD to his mom's for dinner. I get a nice quiet house for the evening :)

Re: Mother's day problems
ILs are coming over for brunch (later than I had asked them to, of course!!) then DH has to go to work at 12. Then later the girls and I will go to my parents for pizza. I'd like the day to relax with DH and the girls, but that won't happen.

Mother's day problems
I am celebrating with my mom the day before but I'm still being guilted into going to brunch on Mother's Day with the entire extended family. I just want a relaxing day at home rather than dealing with a toddler being out when he's usually napping.

Re: Mother's day problems
This is a struggle every year, and became more of one once I became a mom. We used to go to my sister's, on Staten Island, for brunch, then head back to LI to have dinner with DH's family. We hit tons of traffic, and it was miserable. Last year, I hated that I didn't get time for myself. This year, my sister agreed to host on Saturday, that way she and I will both have time to relax on Sunday. We will go for an early dinner with DH's family, but the rest of Sunday is mine to relax and spend with DH and DD.

Mother's day problems
We used to have this problem actually before we had kids. Splitting the day going across the island. But my mom passed away before i had the kids so now it's just my MIL. And surprisingly my DH is very good about making mothers day just about me and MIL is very good about understanding that. MIL usually goes to see DH's sister's who live next door to each other. If we decide to go to see MIL for mothers day it's usually a last minute decision and we've only done that once since having the kids. It's the one holiday a year that i get to myself without having to run here and there so i like to spend it with my DH and my kids. Same thing for Fathers day.

Re: Mother's day problems
We usually host a bbq every year and have both DH and my families together. Last year we did hosted brunch instead of a bbq and it was great so that's what we're doing this year too. I know DD will be passed around to everyone while they're here, but since we're doing brunch it also means they'll all leave somewhat early and I'll have her to myself the rest of the day
