Car seat help - Diono Radian - slim enough?

Wondering if anyone with a Radian can help me - or CAR SEAT CHRIS??Chat Icon

I have a Prius. Currently DS#1 is in a FF Graco Nautalis and DS #2 is RF in a Graco Snugride.

We will need to switch DS#2 to a convertible at some point soon - he's getting close to the weight and height limits. I'd love to be able to fit someone back there with them on the rare occasion of something like my dad comes with us somewhere - so we wouldn't have to bring 2 cars. I am able to (barely) fit if I sit on the edge of the seat. Not to comfy and, no, probably not too safe.

I know the Radian is supposed to be slimmer - I've heard people can fit 3 seats across by using that one. Do you think it would be possible to fit a fairly small person back there with the Nautilis and a Radian? Or, any ideas for a different seat that could make it work?

TIA!

Car seat help - Diono Radian - slim enough?

I'm not exactly sure how large the FF Graco Nautalis is or just how small the backseat of a Prius is, however we recently moved DD from her RF infant chicco keyfit 30 to the Diono Radian, still RFing and there is definitely more room in the backseat of my DH's Hyundai Santa Fe.

Whenever we had to have two people in the backseat with DD's infant seat, it was extremely cramped and uncomfortable, but now there is plenty of room for two adults and DD in the RF Radian.

The only issue I have with the Radian (and perhaps this would be an issue with any of the RF seats) is that we had to move the front seat up really far in order to get the seat to fit. There is almost no leg room for the front seat passenger, so that kind of sucks.

Basically, I have the same response as above. I just wanted to add that you can purchase a diono car seat angle adjuster to help with the leg room in the front seat.

I'd head over to Car-seat.org or csftl.org (or their FB groups) to ask about best seats to fit a potential 3rd person in a prius and the configuration. Trading out the Nautilus for a slimmer seat like the Evenflo Securekid or Harmony Defender may work in addition to the Radian etc.

I'll echo what PP said about losing leg room in the front seat. I drive an Acura RDX. We were considering the Radian until we tried it out in my car. We had to push the front passenger seat up so far that even a short person (I'm barely 5'2) would have their knees jammed up against the dashboard. It was truly awful. We didn't purchase it.

Thanks so much!
Yeah, the front seat was a bit of a concern from what I read. Though neither DH nor I are very tall so it shouldn't be a huge problem, but if it still means that I can't sit a person in the back with the kids, I don't know that I'd want to bother.

Thanks - I have checked there. Most of what I was finding was regarding 3 carseats in the back. But I'll check again - I don't find their search feature that great.

I'd also rather not have to switch out the Nautilus since it's is pretty new. Should have thought of this before I bought that one.

I'm trying to convince my dad to stop by and we could check how the seats we have fit in his car - he has a Taurus. Then we could just take his.

Appreciate the help!Chat Icon

You can get an angle adjuster for Diono seats. Made by them for use with their seats only....
