reuse baby tub or buy a new one

DH saved DDs baby tub (Fisher Price Ocean) but its 3 years old...its been stored in the closet...would you re-use it for baby # 2 or would you just buy a new one?

I kinda feel like we should get a new one bc its a tub and after it being used for almost a year with DD and then sitting unused for 2 years can it really be clean enough?

But if we can get a second use out of it we should...

Thoughts?

I would absolutely use it! As long as its not moldy I wouldn't see an issue with it at all.

As long as there isn't mold and can be cleaned I would use it. If that's in question, then just buy a new one. They're only $20.

Re: reuse baby tub or buy a new one

I used the one I got for DC1 for DC2. As long as there is no mold/stains or broken pieces on it, I'll just clean it and use it for DC3. I'll get a new foamy thing though (I used it as an insert for when they were very tiny).

Re: reuse baby tub or buy a new one

I'd use it. DS2 has all hand-me-downs. No issues. We took the infant tub out of storage, washed the mesh cover that holds the baby when an infant in the machine (it's machine washable) with Dreft and I washed the plastic tub with warm soapy water. Came out fine.
Pretty much all of the baby toys from DS1 was handed down... we washed the bouncy, exersaucer, etc. Whatever could go in the washing machine did and whatever couldn't and was still in good condition was wiped down or cleaned in the sink and air dried.

I'd reuse it.
Just give it a good cleaning with hot water and you're set

Re: reuse baby tub or buy a new one

While you probably can use it, I'd get a new one. I did for DS2. May not be logical but I just felt that DS2 should at least get a new tub (since the exersaucer, swing, toys, etc etc were all from DS1).

When we have a second I will likely buy new. I was very grossed out by the fisher price " whale of a tub " which is the one we had....

I reused our tub............and my kids are 4.5 yrs apart.

It's plastic and can be easily cleaned. Plus, it was in perfect condition. I saw no reason to replace it.

Re use. You would say your tub is gross cause you have used it for the past 2 years. Wash it and move on to the next item.

Re: reuse baby tub or buy a new one

DH and I just talked about this last night. We are going to throw DS's infant tub away. When we have DC2 we will buy a new one. Plastic is porous which means mold can be in there, but you just don't see it. Plus, it's such a cheap thing to replace.
