In no way was I trying to offend anyone and I apologize if I have. To say I am on a "high horse" is a bit harsh. I now know why people leave this site. There are way too many individuals who take what others say personally instead of what it is meant as. A place where people can vent, get advice, encouragement and support. I liked the site for IF. As for parenting, I guess people can't handle when someone has a differing opinion. In case you forgot, I am feeding my children conventional formula. It is not working for them. Wouldn't you want an answer as to why your child screams when they eat???? Sorry if I am inexperienced and all I care about is getting my LO to eat in peace. I am just looking for answers just as everyone else on here is. I don't appreciate being attacked as I was not attacking anyone nor am I judging anyone for their choices. As a mom you are your child's only true advocate and whatever your gut tells you to do you do! I make no judgements EVER!!! I am educated thank you very much which is why I know their is more than one way to do things in this world and just because a Dr suggests something doesn't mean A it will work or B you should follow it. I don't take meds so why would I jump to that for my child? That is just me. You do what you want and think is best and I do the same.

It saddens me I will now leave a site that helped me get through a very hard time. It took me so long to conceive and now that I have two gorgeous little girls to show for it I am going to do whatever I can to make their lives as pain free and happy as I can. That is my goal in life now.

Good luck to everyone and best wishes

I find it funny how she says I guess people can't handle when someone has a differing opinion, yet she leaves the board because she couldn't handle other peoples differing opinions.

Just wondering why soy is horrible? Is it the GMOs or are there other reasons?
As for the original question, I have heard of people on allergy forums making their own formula from hemp milk or goat milk.

I'm just guessing here, but she MAY be referring to studies that show a link with girls and soy to breast cancer.
I don't know if there are other reasons also.

Soy mimics estrogen in the body, so excessive soy consumption can act like a hormone. Also unless soy is organic it is Gmo. Like anything moderation.

I used to eat it all the time bc I am vegetarian so I ate soy "meats" well eating too much can basically bring on hashimotos disease which I now have and soy is the worst thing for it. It also made my face break out. So now I can't eat it anymore.

Exactly this. It has also been linked to allergies, behavioral issues, reproductive issues and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Even if it's organic, it should be eaten sparingly.

Great, more for me to worry about...tofu is practically the only protein DD is willing to eat right now.

Also, most babies who have a milk protein allergy also are sensitive to soy protein.

This woman is exclusively FORMULA feeding her twins. She's not a breastfeeder trying to criticize formula feeders...sheesh! She's trying to do right by her baby! And she's right...if corn syrup is the first ingredient in a can of formula, it is crap. And we wonder about obesity, allergies, and all the rest... FTR, I FF much more than I BF all three of my children. And I pretty much hated BF too...so there! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Sorry she felt she had to leave...

This exactly. Sorry but, formula is filled with a lot of crappy ingredients. That is all she said - the obvious. She didn't say that she or anyone else on this bored was a crappy mom for feeding their kid formula. I did EBF for a while both my kids but, both of my kids had formula too because that was the only other option I felt. And, yeah, A LOT of what we eat has a lot of crap in it! IT SUCKS and I'm sure we all wish it was different! I think it's a bit over the top defensive and sensitive to get upset about what she wrote when SHE herself acknowledged that this is the way she feeds HER OWN kids.

TO the op - I do know moms that make their own formula but, it's always moms in addition to BF like when they go out if they can't pump enough so not sure about the nutritional value if this is all you give...good luck!

not sure if the OP is still reading but i know some moms who made their own formula. one specifically who said it was a huge PITA and investment to find the ingredients, and it ended up that her DS didnt like that formula anyway.

i looked into it as well but i didnt feel confident that i was going to mix it properly (exact measurements, etc) so I opted to supplement with an organic formula which didnt have the most ideal ingredients. i didnt supplement for very long but i wish i had done better research. good luck!

Have you tried black beans? I give dd organic ones from the can. She loves them! Also, yobaby, yotoddler and yokids yogurt are loaded with protein (in addition to calcium, dha, omega 3). They even have them all in pouches.

Eh. I was a strictly FF mom and it didn't upset me that she said it was crap. I don't care that she believes it is crap, that's her opinion and right. Much of what we eat in this world IS crap. And I didn't take it that she was trying to knock anyone, just as people make their own baby food, she was trying to see if she could make her own formula. I think formula has it's "crap" and I also think plenty of BF babies ingest plenty of "crap" via their mothers BM (based on the mom's diet or intake, etc) too so that's my opinion. We each decide which we feel is best for whatever reason. I just didn't feel that the benefits of BM were enough to make the effort. And it doesnt bug me she called it crap b/c that crap is what my extremely hungry and healthy child survived and thrived on.

I am sorry she felt she had to leave. I really did understand that she wanted to try to make it herself, just as so many people decide that jarred baby food is not what they prefer to feed their child. And I too chose to use only jarred food, as I felt making it myself had negatives associated with it just as jarred food might have negatives as well.

I also had a child with reflux and constipation, and I refused to use SOY for this reason also. My ped also did did not want me using SOY with my DD since it's an estrogen replacer and she felt the benefits of the whole milk fat were important for the developing brain.

I should also mention that the ingredients in commercial formula is pretty much crap. The first ingredient on most is corn syrup solids! Crap!

As far as organic I have not. Cows milk is cows milk. If it is made with goats milk then that is a different story

If your child is still having issues with all formula, please look into the possibility of a corn allergy. Feel free to pm me and I can add you to some FB groups. I know several people that make their own goat milk formula because their child reacted to every formula on the market, due to them being 50% plus corn syrup solids. Almost every ped, allergist and GI will tell you it's impossible to react because "the protein is removed", but myself and over 2000 people will tell you otherwise. My two children have severe corn allergies, but I'm nursing through it.
