Was it just a phase? Did it get better after consistently saying no/redirecting?

Or am I doomed?

Found my 13 month old standing on the play table today...afraid of what is next!

I always tell DH that #3 is going to be the one who makes me go gray! He is by far the hardest of them all! He's 20 months and has been climbing since he could pull to stand. Surprisingly he hasn't climbed out of his crib yet (knock on wood)! I live with chairs on my couches because he climbs up and tries to climb on the back of them.

Doomed! At 18 mo mine stand on toys all the time. Especially ones with wheels like ride on toys. They are thankfully still in play yards and cribs. They can get on couches which is ok since they can get down but they RUN on them which scares me.

Mine haven't figured out how to get out of the crib yet but at 16m they climb into the highchairs, coffee table and all over the couches. I'm not sure if this is the right answer lol but I'd rather they become proficient at climbing and do it safely. I I've been encouraging them. We have padded rugs everywhere (except kitchen) which helps a lot.

DD has been a climber since 10 months. She gives me frights constantly. She is only 11 months now and climbs on the water/sand table DS just got. She climbs onto his little desk which does flip over on her but she thinks it is funny. Chairs, couches, stairs etc. As pp said if she is going to keep up it i cant wait until she gets proficient at it.

My older one is a big climber. Always was. We babyproofed the house because of him. He is also an expert in doors & gate work. He is now 3.5 & has become better at climbing.

My other one is super careful. She's the one who doesn't want to climb & go down slides.

It's innate.

Re: If your dc was a climber?

I have 3 climbers. It isn't a phase.

One of my 4yo twins just pushed the kitchen chair up to the counter, stood on counter to climb on top of microwave to reach my secret candy stash in the cabinet on top of the fridge.

My 2yo is just as bad. He learned to climb over baby gates when he was 18mo so we finally took them all down.

All three are fast and sneaky.

Re: If your dc was a climber?

My youngest DD was and still is a climber (she will be 3 on tues)
from the time she could pull herself up to stand, its been a nightmare.
She still likes to climb and jump off the couch, climbs up the stairs (on the outside of the staircase), climbs up onto countertops.
its exhausting. She climbed out of her crib the week of her 2nd bday. But it wasn't really a climb, more like a jump out of the crib lol

My almost 13 month old is a climber as well. What is with these second child/pregnancy babies :)? I was loading the dishwasher before and she comes over and climbs on th door standing there. I couldn't believe her. At least that's low to the ground. But she loves the soars and has mastered them and is up them in 1 second. Dd1 wasn't like this at all. Ugh. Lol

DS is a little monkey! 14.5 months old. I predict it ends when he's a teenager.

Re: If your dc was a climber?

so far it's not just a phase for us. Once he realized he can climb he never stopped. I try to contain him in areas where he has nothing to climb on but we live in a small house so it's not always easy.

Same, My DS is 20 months and climbs everything. I got him a little set of table and chairs, and he is constantly climbing on that too.

Re: If your dc was a climber?

For me, its NOT a phase. DS loves to climb on everything. He's 2 now, and although he's almost never out of DH or my sight, we have had to take steps to make the area climb-proof and safe for him, such as removing the stools to our kitchen island, because he climbs up on them and stands on the island.

We take him down, we redirect him, we say "No climb" "Get down" etc but its too enticing.

He has never climbed out of the crib, so I guess Im lucky there.
