fairway vs whole foods

I'm lucky to live across the street from a fairway so that's where i go 99% of the time..

I've been to whole foods in Mannhasset and I find it small and a little dirty. I was in Atlanta 2 wks ago and we stopped by a whole foods and i felt like i was in disneyland! the place was HUGE and clean.. i spent a few min in there ( was just picking up cake)but then I started to think maybe that ONE location I went to sucked.

so on my way to the gym last night I stopped in the whole foods in chelsea.. they have TWO stores! one just yoga clothing, beauty products, vitamins, etc and on the other end of the block is the supermarket. it was prettty darn big and CLEAN!

what are your thoughts? any product you love that can only find at whole foods?

Can't think of certain product, besides their guacamole Chat Icon, that I buy regularly. But I LOVE Whole Foods. I go to the one in Tribeca.

The Columbus Circle one has 2 floors.
There is a BAR in the lower level.
I had beer in Whole Foods.
It was awesome!

They have an upstairs but if I remember correctly, it's only tables for those eating lunch in there.

fairway vs whole foods

I shop at both stores. Whole foods carries the gluten free bread I use fresh. I purchase hot food from Whole foods frequently for lunch and it is much better then Fairway (I like the food at fairway).

We live in between both (on UWS). I will NOT go to fairway. It's dirty and disgusting. There were major reports of rats running through it, onto the olive bar, etc. last year.

Whole Foods in Columbus Circle is a dream come true.

The one in Manhasset is not great. I prefer the one in Jericho, it's cleaner and brighter.

I'm excited to check out the new one in Brooklyn. I drove passed it recently and it looks really nice AND has a parking lot. That's HUGE around these parts Chat Icon

I used to work across from the Chelsea Whole Foods! I loved the "Whole Body" store. It's the only one I've been to that had a separate store for that stuff.

That one was always nice, but the newer ones, like Columbus Circle, Tribeca and Yonkers are HUGE!

The one in Yonkers was actually too huge--it is near my dr.'s office & I had an MRI & was supposed to drink a large bottle of water right after & and wandered around & around trying to find the refrigerated water. Chat Icon

We get our produce, bread (from the bakery part) & fish from Whole Foods, b/c it is usually better than Stop & Shop.

They also have a good beer & cheese selection.

I also buy Dr. Bronner's soap from there, b/c it is harder to find near me.

I have never been to Fairway.

Re: fairway vs whole foods

I think the whole foods OOS are nicer. I lived down south for a little while and it was the talk of the town when a whole foods opened up in the neigborhood. When I went there was not a parking spot to be had, they had valet parking and yes a bar. It was amazing. I'm not a fan of the whole foods here. I agree with you about the Manhasset location and I find the shoppers at the Jericho location to be quite rude. I prefer Fairway

Re: fairway vs whole foods

I love the Whole Foods in Chelsea, Columbus Circle and ESPECIALLY the one in Tribeca...because that one is in the same complex as a Barnes and Noble...I can get my read on and my eat on!

The one in Union Square makes me want to kill myself. Too crowded.

Only problem I have with the Chelsea or Tribeca location is that the shoppers generally seem to be snotty assholes, but that's not keeping me from shopping there.

I live for the Whole Foods antipasta bar. Yum diggity. I like to get the containers with the separate sections and load up! Also love the beer selection at Whole Foods. They carry the Ecover line there, which is an environmentally- and animal-friendly line of cleaning products...but lately I've been ordering them online just because I can't be motivated to trek downtown.

I went to the gowanus one, and I wasn't soooo impressed. I like the parking lot, but they seemed to have a much bigger selection of fancy stuff and a smaller selection of more run of the mill stuff. I also felt like 1/2 the store was prepared foods.

If I am already in the car, I'd much rather go to Fairway. They have a good selection of fancy stuff, but I can still get basic things there too. I can't do my full shop at whole foods but I can at fairway.

We got one in Northern VA when I was living down there a few years ago. We too had the beer area, gelato, and tiny little restaurants with stools around the store. I'll take the Jericho Whole Foods and Fairway over any market here on the south shore of Nassau County. Typically I make the weekly drive to the Fairway in Westbury! I find the produce much better at Whole Foods (I went there last weekend).

Re: fairway vs whole foods

No fairway by me but I go to whole foods all the time. You are no where near me, but I go to the WF in Lake Grove and it's very nice inside. It is also only about 5 years old so it's still very new.
