Which resort?
I think FH and I have decided on an AI resort in Punta Cana. Now to decide between Secrets or Excellence. My FIL's have a timeshare that we can switch to Secrets and pay $1900 for the week. But they don't recognize Excellence and it would be $2700. But I want an amazing honeymoon. Which place would you choose?
ETA...if you do have an opinion please tell me why! Thanks!

We honeymooned at the Excellence in Playa Mujeres and it was honestly AMAZING and we have been to many AI's over the years. We recommended to two other couples who loved it as well. I know nothing about Secrets though.

my BFF honeymooned there as well and LOVED it! she suggested it to me for Punta Cana. but i also know the Playa Mujeres location is nicer than Punta Cana.
I just think i'll get more for the money at Secrets, but I don't want to go cheap.

My husband and I only stay at Excellence Resorts when we travel to Mexico or DR. Truthfully, EPC is our happy place. I have to completely disagree that EPM is a nicer location than EPC. EPC is a completely different layout and feel than EPM. EPC is waaayyy more of a tropical luxury feel and the beach is absolutely stunning. Yes, it is true that it is on the Atlantic side and there are waves making swimming difficult but you can certainly get in the water and play around and of course, you can walk for forever and not run into another resort or vendors. Food is always subjective and now that EPC has added the Flavor Market that is at EPM, I think the food is just as good as EPM and ERC. Also, you do not have the seagrass that happens at EPM. I will say that the rooms are older, as it is a much older resort but they are doing alot of construction and updating everything making the resort an even better resort. I could go on and on about the resort and the Excellence chain in general. Please feel free to FM if you want to know anything specific.

Dh and I stayed at Excellence Punta Cana a few year ago and it was the best AI we have ever stayed at (and we've stayed at a lot).

I've never been to Secrets, so I'm not sure. But Excellence was beautiful. We weren't thrilled with the staff, but the resort itself- the rooms, the pool (the gorgeous 1.5 mile long pool!), the food, everything else was fantastic.
I will also say that the beach wasn't that great- actually let me rephrase. The beach was beautiful- soft, combed sand- tons of umbrellas, chairs, beds, anything and everything, but the water was SUPER rough and nobody really spent time on the beach, despite the wonderful amenities. I didn't mind since they have the HUGE pool, but it's just the location of the resort. Secrets might be the same though, not sure where that is located compared to Excellence.

I remember reading this after booking the trip and thinking oh man, if the rooms are as bad as the reviews then I'm going to be disappointed. I didn't request a new room at the time, but we were given one and it was fantastic. By far and away the largest and most luxurious AI room we've ever had- and it was the cheapest!!

I've stayed at the Excellence Riviera Maya for my honeymoon and it was the BEST resort I want to! Recently, I went to Jamaica and stayed at Secrets. It was GREAT but the food at the Excellence was much better and much more variety.
Now, my DH surprised me with a trip for my birthday to Punta Cana at the Excellence. We are going in March. I KNOW it will be great.
The Excellence is really beautiful, the restaurants are great, tons of variety, the spa was AMAZINGGGGGGGG, really romantic.

My vote is for Excellence. It's an AMAZING resort. Secrets is great too. If I had to pick for myself, I'd got with Excellence.

I was REALLY close to going to Excellence Punta Cana but ultimately decided against it because of hurricane season. I found nothing but good reviews though so I voted for it!

I've been to Secrets Cap Cana in Punta Cana, not sure if it's the same one but we were really disappointed in the service and overall feel of the resort. We went to Excellence Playa Mujeres and it was AMAZING. There is no comparison in my opinion. We are going back in March because we loved it so much. My vote is for Excellence!!
