Help Get FIOS In Brookhaven!
Contrary to popular belief, the Brookhaven government DOES want FIOS in their district. It's Verizon who is refusing due to assumed socioeconomic barriers to profits. Optimum has a monopoly in Brookhaven, and as a result, they charge higher prices in Brookhaven than in areas where FIOS is available. The people can change this!!!
JOIN the push to DEMAND FIOS in Brookhaven!!!!! Let the town know NOW so they can put the needed pressure on Verizon. Brookhaven town hall meeting: Saturday feb 1st at 10 am 1 Independence Hall, Farmingville.. 2nd floor auditorium. Everyone benefits. Please tell everyone you know!!

I'm all for everyone getting FiOS, but didn't Cablevision have a monopoly over ALL of Long Island for decades? When Verizon first came in, they obviously were trying to cut into a very well established monopoly in every other town.
I've also heard stories that Verizon is backing off on installing new services anywhere. They are supposedly working on strengthening their existing infrastructure before they expand again. In all states, regardless of existing monopolies.

Verizon is likely losing money on FIOS in general. And since Cablevision usually offers ridiculous deals to switch back, Verizon probably knows they won't get enough customers in that area for it to be profitable.
I'm not a fan of Verizon anyways. I signed up for business FIOS. Internet really wasn't any faster than Cablevision and on the business side they are way more expensive than Cablevision. So I cancelled the FIOS within the 30 day trial period. Verizon has been billing me for the last two months trying to get money out of me, when the bill should be zero. I wonder how many people actually pay these bills without knowing.

It has LONG been a misconception, to my knowledge, that Brookhaven wouldn't allow Fios. For a time, they did not, but recently, they have been accepting of allowing Fios in. Verizon, however, lacks the infrastructure, manpower and capabilities to even bring to Brookhaven.
