Organic vs. Regular Milk?

DS will be 1 soon; and I'm planning to stop pumping at work and only nursing at home/weekends. His bottles will just be whole milk. I'd like to put him on Organic.

Of course my husband doesn't agree it's worth the cost; that there is no difference between regualr and organic milk. I'm online doing some research and some thing say there isn't enough evidence; or studies haven't found enough difference. But I would think minimizing any additional hormones would be best? And then with all the new hormones they're injecting in the animals how do we know what the long term effects are?

This is a hot topic on here and a lot of people have done a lot of research.

Based on previous posts, I decided to go with a hormone free non-organic milk that is pasteurized, not ultra-pasteurized (I could not find any organic milk that is not ultra-pasteurized that is convenient for me to get to).

If I can't find hormone free milk, I will buy organic.

i feel that for adults there might not be a difference, but kids are smaller and the amount of fluid they consume and while they are still developing... i feel its worth it. eventually dd won't get everything organic and natural but we try to do the best we can with it now while she is so small. we use stonyfield organic whole milk from stop and shop. its usually on sale, still expensive, about 3.50-4.50

I give my DS lactaid which is Ultra-pasteurized and not organic. If he could have reg milk I probably still wouldn't go the organic route. We don't do anything organic so why start with milk.

I never bought it for myself because I don't like the taste but then my kids told me they don't like it either so I don't buy it at all anymore.

A study was just on the news yesterday about how Organic Milk IS better for your body than regular milk, and not just because of the lack of hormones or pesticides. Because organic milk is made from cows who eat grass the quality of the milk is better for you.

Trader Joe's has hormone-free organic milk (pasturized, not ultra pasturized) and it's about $6 for a gallon. Totally worth it IMO.

. FYI, if you have a Whole Foods or a fairway near by they carry organic milk that isn't ultra pasturized.

I buy organic milk, I personally do think there is a difference. I also try to buy grass fed and pasteurized (not ultra). You can get it at Whole foods or fairway. It is more expensive but worth it IMO. Regular milk could come from cows that could have been treated with antibiotics / hormones and they are usually fed a corn diet.

I do organic. And I also do organic for my fruits, veggies and meat. I chose organic because I am concerned about the hormones and antibiotics they inject these animals with. I am really concered about the long term effects of that.
The world we live in is so much different than the world we lived in when we were young or when our parents were young.
The world we live in now is filled with so many toxins. If I can protect my child from any then Im gonna try.
I spend money on quality clothes or shoes or a car. Why not spend the money on better quality food? The very thing our body needs to survive.
That's my train of thought.
I feel to each is own and every person has their own opinion that I respect. But this is mine. This is what works for my family. Do what works best for yours =)

When we first transitioned DD to milk, I was buying organic milk from Trader Joe's. My DD isn't a huge drinker though, and so much of it goes down the drain that I decided it was literally throwing money away. Now I just make sure to buy hormone free milk, which seems pretty easy to find. I read an interesting article about how the benefits of organic milk were mostly during the summer, but now I can't remember why!

We use organic. They use grass fed cows and that is much better for heart health for both kids and grownups. There are fewer added hormones which I think is good too. Honestly, if you can afford it, this is the one major thing I would choose to use organic. If you can I would also do organic berries and green leafy veggies. Things that have a peel you can get regular.

For me, Organic. it's a gut instinct because I haven't read a series of studies on the effects of milk treated with RbSt, antibiotics and steroids. I just thought about how I wouldn't want any of those things being ingested by my kids because they can't be good. I also remember the school nurse (at my school) talking about girls getting AF when they're 8 because of the hormones. That can't be good.

Look for GRASS FED pasteurized (not ultra pasteurized) to reap the full benefits of organic milk. We buy fairway brand, we also drink lots of almond milk (carrageen free,GMO free) which is excellent as well.
