Does anyone know if it's considered normal for a K student to reverse letters or numbers?

Does anyone know if it's considered normal for a k student to reverse numbers or letters at the stage of learning them? At what point is this a problem?

Do you mean writing them?

If so I say yes (I am not a trained professional of course), because last year when DS was in K, I know a bunch of hte kids (especially the younger ones) reversed letters. It got less and less as the year progressed but even now my DS will reverse a letter (hes in first grade), difference is now is he notices it right away where as last year he needed someone to point it out. Also happened with the kids and number 3 alot!

I think so. My DD's K report card pointed out that she wrote numbers with "some reversals." I don't know how to quantify "some" and she still does it occasionally- but she realizes she's doing it or just did it, so I'm not too worried. If she was unaware I'd be more concerned. She's in first now.

My son did this too around the same age. His teacher said it was completely normal and will get better with more practice writing.

Yes, normal. According to our neuro they should stop reversing mid second grade. I'm sure it would depend on the severity as well.

It's completely normal. Especially if it's a d/b reversal. I also noticed a lot of students reversed the 5 a lot.

My DS does this with 5/3/2 and the letter S. I've also seen the other kids' work on the bulletin board and it seems pretty common.

My DS does it with b/d, sometimes L and K. He has gotten alot better and now it b & d that he reverses.

Number too, 5,3,7 & 2. One time he wrote ten as 01

I get nervous thinking he could be dyslexic but my sister assures me its normal at this age.

Yes, totally normal. My DD did it, always mixed up b and d, etc.

Yes, totally normal. What I suggest is having an alphabet in front of him so that he can see how it's supposed to be written.

I'm a 2nd grade teacher and a few of my students still do this periodically. Absolutely normal for a K student!

Yup DD used to do this all the time in K. I was very concerned and brought it up to the teacher and she said it's normal. Now in 1st grade she does it a lot less although she still does it sometimes. FWIW she's a lefty
