And to add, im sorry but the people who take that song to any type of rape level, says a lot more to me about your character and the dark thoughts you have. Thats just a really deep level to take this. A place it should and is clearly not meant to go.

"I'll give you something big enough to tear your ass in two."

I don't know much about the song, but with a line like this? Even if it is not about rape, that is a pretty sick and degrading line. If a woman doesn't have a problem with a line like that it says alot about her character and her dark thoughts. Eeek! To each their own!!

Have you listened to many many rap songs out there. They all have things like this. This line was done by TI. I am guessing he probably wrote that section of the song.

And if TI could tear an ass in 2, he would be in the porn industry..not music Chat Icon.

I don't get how this has turned out? I posted the article for those who felt that's what Mr. Thicke & company was trying to imply. Whether or not you agree with the article, it seems that there are plenty of people who do feel the lyrics are dabbling into that territory.
As previously stated, lyrics are open to interpretation--as is all art. You take away what you take away.
I, for one, happen to like the song. I think it's catchy. However, my issue is: a song with those lyrics shouldn't be played at summer camp for young kids because CLEARLY the lyrics can be interpreted into sexual violence against women. Camp ought to stick to the Teen Beach Movie soundtrack Chat Icon
But please don't criticize women who feel this song crosses a line into that particular territory and judging their "character".

There is a difference between kinkiness, exploring sexual desires, having a naughty side and rape...a very big difference. I think for the most part people see this song for what it is...a song about people out drinking, having a good time, feeling in the moment and considering acting out on sexual desires.

ITA

I was always a relationship girl...never a person who had a fling or flings. But boy did I want to many times, just wasn't something I would allow myself to do. That's exactly how I see this song, as a woman who does not want to do things that are sexual but most likely would love to. Just reserves that for a relationship, so he's telling her you know you want to.

By no means does that mean he would MAKES her, force her.

Robin Thicke's wife was on WWHL with Andy Cohen the other night and I believe she said the song was about taking Molly.

The blurred lines are not about a girl saying yes or no. I dont know why everyone thinks the blurred line is a girl saying no. Thats not it. The blured line is a good girl with a bad girl side who doesnt act on it. Its an arrogant guy going i know im good looking and i know you want me. It has absolutely nothing to do with a guy raping a woman. Or taking her power away.
I say this all the time all commen sense has flown out the window in this world. Everyone has lost their sense of fun and enetertainment. Theres nothing wrong with a woman whose sexual. Shes still a good girl even those shes sexual.
It just makes me want to scream when i hear this im sorry im not trying to attack anyone. I just seriously get angry about this.
Rape is not a joke. It is not a word to be tossed around. And it just shows how overly sensitive this world has come that people cant just enjoy a song and go yea i remember that hot guy i would have loved to do xyz with but i didnt cause im not that kinda girl. Or i did cause i felt like it. Blurred lines....

Eta: i wouldnt waste 1 second of my life on that article.

This is exactly the way I take the song. I did read the article and felt that it was over the top, they twisted the lyrics to fit the posters. There were only two lines that were even close.

Yes, all this.

Plus, as people said earlier, so many songs have lyrics that are on topic or far worse - why is everyone so up in arms about this one in particular?

Because everyone wants to blame someone for turning Hannah Montana into a deranged, trying to get her twerk on (but failing miserably) hot mess! Chat Icon

These lyrics were inspired by his time in prison.
