IPhone 5 users...recommend your car charger.
It seems as of my car charger isn't compatible, even when I use the lightening cable with it...
What charger do you have? Does it also let you play your music through your car speakers? Where did you get it.

IPhone 5 users...recommend your car charger.
I bought mine at the AT&T store where I got my iPhone 5. Unfortunately, I don't know the brand and it doesn't say it on the charger but it works great and even has a usb port on top of the piece that goes into the power outlet so I can hook up someone else's phone that has a usb cord.
I do play music from my phone (pandora or just playlists) through my car stereo but my charger cord doesn't have anything to do with that. It's never interfered with me playing music through the stereo of my Jeep or any other car I've owned for that matter. I have a radio cord that plugs into where the head phones plug in and the other part goes into the port in my car stereo, it works fine. That cord, I purchased, at Radio Shack for like ten bucks.

I think once you upgrade the OS it doesn't support non apple chargers.

I don't think so.. FH just updated his to IOS7 and his phone still charges on our non-Apple dock.

Well, considering that since I bought the 5, none of my devices seem to support it, I'll most likely be buying new stuff anyway. My old iHome doesn't work even with the adapter, it won't play any music from my phone. I was SO annoyed and really wished I saved the $ and got the 4s! This is getting frustrating! 
I haven't updated yet either, bc I heard their are a few bugs that effect security.

How old is your iHome docking station? It could be that it's so old it's just no longer compatible. That does happen from time to time and not just with iPhones but with technology in general.
It's sucks but it is par for the course.
ETA: I'm not sure why your charger wouldn't work, that has to be new if you got it for your iPhone 5, no other chargers will work with it. It could just be that the cord died. That happened to me before I even upgraded the iOS. Could just be a coincidence that it crapped out right around the time you upgraded your iOS.

i just bought a car lighter charger that has USB adaptor to it and used the charger cord that came with my iphone and have had no issues.
