I know this is kind of morbid
But I have been following the chemical attacks of the people in Syria. As a mother, I cannot get the images of the children who died out of my head.
I just wonder, bc I don't understand really how it all works....how exactly did these people die? How only some out of an entire city?
Is it neurologic? I am sorry for such a morbid question but I just dont understand exactly what it means, chemical attacks. I know it was gas, or so Ive read but what happens? Why some and not others, I just don't understand.
My heart breaks for these people.

It all depends on the chemical or nerve agent used...some attack the nervous system..others do things like make your lungs fill with fluids. Unfortunately I know about this kind of stuff for work...

me too, its the scariest thing i have ever seen. To think that humans can do that to one another is far beyond my comprehension.

Everything about this is just horrific. I'm glad we're going in there. Someone has to save these poor people

I agree. At first I was thinking "why do we always have to get involved?!" Then I thought about Hitler & how much happened before other countries stepped in to save them.

I thought the same thing too..I then realized the same thing..these people need our help..I have a few people on facbook up in arms saying that we are starting an illegal war..I don't understand that? I thought using WMD are a big no no!? Especially chemicals!? I feel no matter what Obama chose to do here with Syria he would hear crap about it..lol I think this decision would have been the same no matter who is in office. I just pray for those lover there and our men and women!!

Obama himself cannot do anything. He submitted a request to Congress to take action that still has yet to be decided. Obama can only override congress if there is imminent danger of a attack against America.

I am too. Honestly.
Syria is such a hub and homebase for terrorist organizations over there and the area is VERY prone to spill over violence. It is SO volatile over there and that makes me nervous beyond words.
On a humanitarian level, my heart says go in and get those bastards, they killed innocent babies and children in a horrendously horrific way. Someone needs to help them. People are paying the price over there for Assad attempting to draw out the rebels as they inch closer to him.
It was a desperate move, I think. Which is what scares me, back a desperate, and evil man into a corner and he will use whatever means necessary.
Honestly, I dont want to go in bc I fear retaliation from an unstable regime and area. I think for us to head in, especially alone, is doomsday for us. I think it will perpetuate the hatred for us and that scares me.
But again, I think back to the images of the mother who passed away, along with her baby, in her arms. They both lied together and passed away together, with her other young son laid out just steps from her feet. HOW HORRIFIC is that? The human in me, the mother, wants us to do something, so that doesnt happen again.
I think bottom line, eventually, we are all headed for a WWIII in the middle east. It is too unstable, too many pockets of terrorist and rebel groups, no regard for human life and a hatred for Western society (particularly the US). Look at the spill over into Turkey, one by one the entire mid-east is going to get sucked into this, I think and then all hell breaks loose.
Do we go in and try to stop it, and set off a firestorm or do we sit back and do nothing and let the cards fall as they may?
I really dont know. What I do know is the threat of the middle east terrifies me.

I just read that the U.K. Declined to intervene. I'm torn too. I honestly don't know if there is a "right thing" to do. It's such a catch 22.

I think it's sad, horrible, heartbreaking, terrible...you name it. But I also think we should stay out of it. Syria is a HOT BED for terrorists. They harbor them knowingly and do nothing about it. So like the alcoholic uncle I say let them hit rock bottom and deal with the situation THEY have caused.
Don't get me wrong, it was heartbreaking to see innocent men, women and children suffering but I feel if we intervene it will do nothing to help the situation.

It's not as simple as going in and firing missiles

I am torn because I do think how long it took to intervene during the evil Holocost but part of me feels it was such a different time

Typically I think US should stay out of other areas and issues. But not this. I'm on board with intervention.
If we had to deal with the shit those poor people in Syria have to deal with - you bet your butt I would be wanting some other country to intervene.
I'm not always confident in our govt - admittedly. But I am confident in our armed services who are highly trained. Whether its in battle or obtaining intel.
. I think of those navy seals every single day who went in on that mission and killed Osama. I'm about the most peaceful person ever, but we have a military for a reason and it's not just to protect us. They exist for the greater good of the world.

I think this was well said! I am scared.. i fear for the safety of our troops and the innocent people over there who lost their family and children. Over 400 children!! I feel like if we do nothing what will stop Assad from using chemicals again and again?? More and more deaths? Chemicals scare the living Shit out of me!! Whatever the President decides to do I will stand behind our Troops and give them the support they will need.

If we intervene will we need to buy gas masks?
Will they hit us with a dirty bomb?
How many sleeper cells are currently living in the US, and when will act once given the go-ahead from overseas?
I know this is so over the top crazy to even think these thoughts, but ever since I had my son, I'm more fearful.

I feel absolutely disgusted by what is going on in Syria, and my heart breaks for the innocent people that have suffered and died.
But I just don't see how sending a few missiles into Assad's territory is going to help them. Not to mention that neither of the sides fighting the civil war in Syria are US allies. I've heard that many of the Syrian rebels are
Al-Qaida affiliates...so by hurting Assad, aren't we essentially helping Al-Qaida? This is a huge moral dilemma for me because I can't help but put myself in the position of the innocent people living in fear, but I'm just not understanding how US involvement is going to help. I wish The UN or other nations could get involved, so it isn't just on the US bc I also fear retaliation.
No matter what, I'm praying for our troops and all Americans and innocent people in the region that could be affected.
