lawsuit against Paula Deen is dropped

The link isn't taking me to the article but my feeling is sure it is dropped, I am sure she paid off whoever it was to 'go away'.

here is the article
In one of the most supremely ironic court decisions in a long time, a judge just threw out the racial discrimination claim filed against Paula Deen -- the very lawsuit that destroyed the famous chef.A judge just ruled ... Lisa Jackson had no right to claim racial discrimination, BECAUSE SHE'S WHITE!  Any comments that Deen or her cohorts may have made had no legal consequence to her, because she's simply not the right color.Jackson made a tenuous argument that someone in her family was bi-racial -- something that may not be true at all.  But the judge said even if it were true, she was at best an "accidental victim."Short story -- Jackson ruined Paula with a bogus claim. The case goes on, because Jackson also claims sexual discrimination, and so far there's not basis to doubt that she's a woman.

This woman was definitely looking for $ and ended up ruining Paula Deen's career in the meantime. I'm not a fan of hers, but I do feel bad for.what happened to Paula.

I think QVC & FN will end up taking her back. I really hope she tells them both to go scratch.

ETA: I didn't even know until recently her accuser was white! I just assumed she was black.

This woman was definitely looking for a payout. But like a pp mentioned, the damage is now done. Let's see if the media covers this nonstop for the next 2 weeks or so......Chat Icon

This woman did so much damage and all to try to make some quick cash she didn't earn. I am glad she isn't getting a penny.
I hate people who don't want to work to earn their own way but would rather scam to take from others.

Me neither! Which I'm sure was intentional to make it more appalling than it was.

Honestly, I don't think the accuser's race should have anything to do with the lawsuit and I'm really surprised it was thrown out for that reason. Racism is racism, no matter who is around to hear it.

I guess b/c if it didn't directly effect her, why isn't anyone who it actually happened to coming forward? I guess that makes it seem fishy and not genuine. JMO anyway.

Re: lawsuit against Paula Deen is dropped

I read that the lawsuit was not thrown out, just the racism associated charges. The woman is still suing for hostile work environment, which if you read the deposition, it certainly was. Paula Deen's brother is a PIG

Right. But that doesn't give you a legal basis to sue for damages. Being offended by something directed at somebody else (as wrong as it may be) does not rise to the level of justifying monetary damages in a court of law. Our court system would be flooded with frivolous actions if they allowed lawsuits like this to proceed. It's a very slippery slope.

As usual, the media fails to set forth all the facts of the matter, skewing the court of public opinion. The fact that the accuser is white is a pretty important fact and keeping that little nugget of info out of the news was deliberate to sensationalize the case.

Got it! This makes more sense. I was going to say, it's not like she was sued for being racist... you can't sue someone for their sh!tty opinions.

It does when you're an employee and it creates a stressful or hostile work environment. I've seen it!

ETA: And I still firmly 100% believe the accuser's race should have NOTHING to do with the lawsuit.

Do I think she's doing it for easy money? Probably. Do I think that's right? No. However, if what she claims is true, I still think Paula Deen deserves to be sued.

But if the claims are unfounded, then her entire career was ruined over an untrue accusation.

I may be wrong but I thought the news said that she admitted to using a racial slur but it was like 30 years ago or something. Is that what this is about? Not that it's right either way but I'm confused if that is the case or was she using racial slurs all the time?

Agreed. Read the deposition. Her brother is disgusting. That was not a work environment that anyone should be subjected to. It was brought to PD's attention over and over and she chose to do nothing about it.
