I think that people who clearly have no concept of babywearing shouldn't make comments about safety.

Why are you talking about safety? IMO this looks very silly, wearing a TODDLER. He is not a baby.

I agree the original post was a bit catty, but Onemoretime seriously? Having a toddler and being a celeb I would imagine this IS the safest way to get from point A to point B with the airport and paps. So just because he is a TODDLER he shouldn't be held or carried? That just sounds weird. babywearing is a safe, comfortable, NATURAL thing to do. Many women babywear for years and many people make carriers specifically for toddlers and GASP preschool aged kids! Snark meeting snark is not helping this thread.

I will wear my children until I physically can no longer do it. Or they no longer want uppy. Just because he's a "toddler" doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be held.

To the poster who asked what sling this was, it looks like a wrap conversion ring sling made from a BB Slen, pineapple color way.

I must also say that Kate *should* pull the shoulder down a little. She'd be way more comfy.

Side note, I wonder if they bed share.. Chat Icon

Or if she still breastfeeds (if she ever did). Oh the horror!

I have a 3 yo that I carry all the time. I can't imagine bringing him around in a carrier like this. I have yet to see a toddler or preschooler in one of these things. And I won't mention what I think about Breastfeeding toddlers, so let's not go there.

How old is that kid?Chat Icon He looks gigantic in that.

I was going to quote your initial comment, so I am glad you reconsidered your words. They were incredibly judgmental, for lack of a better word.

Excuse me? It wasn't a big deal what I wrote. The ONLY reason I rewrote it is I wasn't in the mood for a debate. But I will say it again since you felt the need to comment as if I am not entitled to MY OWN opinion.

I think 2 is TOO old for a pacifier. Once they start speaking, they are too old for a pacifier IMO. Don't bother debating me since you won't change my mind. And I think he's too big to be carried like that. Being carried in your arms is one thing. Being carried like that is another. It looks ridiculous. That's MY opinion. If you or anyone else want to do it, that's up to you. But I can think what I want just as you can do/think what you want. I am entitled to MY opinion and will comment my opinion on the picture. Not going to debate you, so don't bother trying.

I certainly won't try to change your mind. But your comments were pretty judgmental in their delivery. IMO.

A simple "not for me" or "I wouldn't do that" is a far more productive contribution than "way too big too be carried like that and too old to be using a pacifier", as if you're the queen bee of parenting. That was MY personal interpretation of what you said. I am not interested in debating with you.

It's funny that you are calling Goobster judgmental when your original comment "I think that people who clearly have no concept of babywearing shouldn't make comments about safety" is judgmental in and of itself. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of the picture and what is happening in the picture. I happen to agree with Goobster, the kid looks ridiculous in the carrier. If she is concerned about safety, put him in a stroller. As for the paci, I'm not one to talk. I only took it away from DS when he was also 2ish.

How is what she said judgmental?

It's judgmental because she is assuming those who disagree with wearing a child that old automatically know nothing about baby wearing and also don't know about safety. Like I said before everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Her comment was catty and unnecessary.

The fact that you write babywearing as two separate words just shows that you do not know enough about it to judge those who do so.

Actually, I'm allowed to have an opinion. I think that carrying a 2 year old like a baby looks silly. I didn't say she shouldn't do it. If it works for her, more power to her. I just wouldn't do it. For the record, I'm writing this on an anonymous message board. It's not like I'm saying it to Kate Hudson herself. If my friend was doing this, I certainly wouldn't tell her that I disagreed because it's her decision. My original comment was that Kitten1929's comment was unnecessary and I stand by that.

The last thing that I will say is this: I find it incredibly...sad...that carrying her child at 2 years is considered "silly."

What a shame that this culture can't be accepting of a mother holding her child. It seems so closed-minded, and baffling, to find something wrong with this.

Do any of the women on here STOP carrying their children because it looks silly? Do you not want to have close, comforting contact with your child? Do you not want to love and hug and hold them as much as possible? Is there some unwritten rule somewhere that kids can't be held past a certain age?

I am just genuinely so confused that there can be anything wrong or silly about this. I truly am.

Adorbs! I want that sling - anyone know the brand?

I think it's Pineapple BBSlen . :)

Thanks! I can't find any sites that sell it, but I found a similar ring sling I like when searching for this one - so yey!

I had a very similar sling, it was a rockin baby ring sling. Loved it!

On that note, it would be Eliza's post that was stirring the pot, bringing up a heated topic, since that had NOTHING to do with this thread in the first place.

What was omitted? I requoted. This is the reply you gave. From what I can see, you are the only one who brought it up. Unless I am missing something, all I see is someone mentioned bedsharing. And I didn't see the need to quote bedsharing, b/c that is NOT BF. Anyone can bedshare, that doesn't equate to BF. So actually you the first and only person to write BF on the thread, to which you received a reply from Onemoretime.

Trying to put it on you? You put it on you as you are the only one who brought up the controversial topic on this thread, which was not about BF. Chat Icon

My point to any babywearing naysayers is that this is a safe effective parenting tool. Please educate me: Do babies reach a certain age where you are not allowed to carry them? Do children do better running around than in the safety of a parents arm, especially in an airport?

I am just baffled that anyone would think it's unsafe/impractical/unnecessary/weird/insert any other adjective/ in regards to holding your child?

This comment is on page 2 before all hell breks loose.

Before this comment, the ONLY thing I saw was (and I am paraphrasing)"Damn, that kid is big, it must hurt like a MO to wear a child THAT BIG on you".

That was the sentiment I saw. No one said it was weird (insert adjective). They said "Damn, that must hurt like a MO to carry around a large child like that.

Nothing more.

Re: Kate Hudson and son Bingham

When I opened this multi page thread and first saw the pic, I was wondering what could have even been discussed for so long. I thought maybe it was her acid washed jeans.

I never thought it weird she was babywearing. I thought it was awesome. I have so many crunchy friends who do this with their kids. Cailen never liked it. But my friends wear their 4 year olds on their back wi a similar sling.

Is it just me.... Or is 2 years old still a baby???? I don't find it shocking to carry or wear a 2 year old. A 2 year old is still brand new to this planet IMO. Some people on here are making 2 sound like 12!!!

lol! Yes, almost 2 is still a baby! I am not crunchy but after seeing this picture I was planning on asking the parenting board to recommend their carriers for toddlers. I used to love carrying an infant in a carrier (kept both my hands & arms free) & he's now 14 months & grown out of his bjorn.

Kate Hudson and son Bingham

I've avoided posting here, because quite frankly this thread made me really angry.
We (the majority of this site) are women.
We (most of us I believe) are or want to be mothers.
We should be supporting each other.
Not making judgements about how someone else chooses to live.
Your choices are yours, mine are mine it should be as simple as that.

What difference does it make if she's using her arms or using a sling? She's carrying her child. Don't we ALL do it?
