WWYD re: tipping
We had a cesspool company come last week. The guy told DH it was $325, we gave $365, so each guy would get a $20 tip. I randomly find the receipt last night at it was written up as $325 plus tax (we paid cash) so it was around $350 or so, so I feel bad now that the guys didn't get tipped? Or very little, which isn't what we intended?
DH thinks maybe he wrote up the receipt first, because he did negotiate a little with his boss on the phone and brought the price down. He came up to DH and said "three and a quarter" and we handed over $365 cash.
I just want to make sure these guys got what they were supposed to. DH said maybe I should go down or call.
WWYD?

We chose to. DH works in the construction field and felt it was appropriate. People sometimes tip him.

No I would not tip. They get a salary just like any profession outside of servers who get less pay because of tips.

No I would not tip. They get a salary just like any profession outside of servers who get less pay because of tips.
Just to clarify - this is NOT a tip debate about whether or not they should be tipped.
My husband and I WANTED to tip them. We felt it was deserved. I simply hope they got what we intended.

Since the guy verbally told us a price, we gave that amount PLUS a tip.
I now see a different amount on the receipt, and am questioning if I should make sure that they got what we intended.
I just called and left a message. I hope they got the tip - they deserved it.

Next time hand the tip to the workers. When my dh did residential construction he never got tipped. Then when he went into management he realized the head guys were taking the tips for themselves and not tipping out the guys doing all the work.

Oops I didn't want to create drama. I'm just clueless about tipping and felt bad because we've had the cesspool pumped 3 times in 3 years and I didn't tip. Other than the obvious waiter, hair stylist, food delivery, etc. I never know who to tip and who not to tip. I would hate to stiff someone.
