WWYD - Bed rail and tipping the mattress off the bed
We converted DS' crib to a toddler daybed about 2 months ago.
We got a "tall" bed rail because I did not want him to fall. There is an opening at the end of the bed so he can get up and not try to go over the rail to get off.
Fast forward to this week.
I don't know what DS is doing but a few days ago, I found the mattress on the floor, bottom side up. It had completely tilted and was on the floor.. I did not know if DS pushed against the rail and tilted the whole thing.
Last night it happened again.
DS "walks" on his bed. Old habbit from being in a crib.
Now..... do I change the bed rail to a shorter one so he can't use it as a side panel like the rest of the daybed?
Do I transition him NOW to a twin bed? I was thinking about a platform bed but now I am worried he might hurt himself really bad if he walks on the bed and falls on one of the corners.
I did not really want to buy a toddler bed.

Re: WWYD - Bed rail and tipping the mattress off the bed
Do you mean the mesh rails that slide under the mattress? If so, and I could be wrong if a new product is out there, but they do not recommend using bedrails with toddler beds or really any bed where the section that slides under can't be sandwiched between the box spring and mattress. That said, I have used bedrails with a toddler bed and even now my son still uses it, he's on the bottom bunk of a bunk bed so no box spring. But in both cases there was a lip of sorts on the bedframe edge where I could wedge the corner of the where the bedrail bends. I don't know if that makes it clear. How high is the bedrail vs the standard one? I could see how it could happen with the mattress being lightweight and the rail being high. Before you went out and got a new bed if you are not ready, I'd try a lower rail first.

Yes, it slides under the crib mattress. There is no boxsprint. The bedrail has extention that goes under the mattress and "squeezes" the mattress with a leveling system to squeeze as tight as it can go.
The rail is 15 inches tall.
