Where is everyone having or had their DC's 1st bday party?
Trying to get some ideas and wondering what everyone else's plan is!

Where is everyone having or had their DC's 1st bday party?
It probably depends on the time of year for birthday. I took a chance & had twins first birthday in my yard (oct 2012) I am also going to do the same thing this year. I hired a clown last year & it surely was beautiful day. I don't find the need to have at a place yet when child really doesnt understand. I will wait until they are really asking

I've gone full circle... dd will be 1 on nov 5th. originally I wanted it at our house... then I realized I can't fit everyone... so I wanted it out, somewhere I could rent a room and do everything myself. I looked into the village center in port jeff, the bates house & neighborhood house in Setauket, fire departments... and now i'm going to do it at home and rent a tent/heaters.

Renting tent/heaters is going to cost just as much as a fire dept so you should just go there... those big tents are like $200- or so to rent

I did both of our kids' birthdays at our house.
We had 60 people... It was many for a small space.
I agree, a home party costs more than you'd think...

We did it at home, in October, started in backyard, but it got a little chilly so we moved to basement. I love party planning so hoping to do most at home, unless he requests something else.

We had it in our yard (June birthday), but rented a tent tables/chairs...and it's a good thing we did bc it did rain a little at the beginning, but then it cleared up and was a beautiful day. Between the tent and catering (Cookys Deli, so good!) I probably could have had it at a place, but we had a pink lemonade theme and I just couldn't envision the theme working anyplace but my yard.
Also, we didn't have a lot of kids, so I didn't bother with entertainment. I got some beach balls and bubbles and that was that. DD had a blast.

My older DS is a May baby, we had his 1st birthday at the Lido Beach mushrooms. My younger DS is a March baby, we are thinking of having his 1st birthday at the Knights of Columbus.

DS is only 5 weeks today but we already started talking about it because we want to do a BBQ at a park and you have to book that far in advanced. We're looking into Wantagh Park.

we are having my DS 1st bday at Jackie Reilly's. We are inviting family and friends, I also hired kids entertainment for an hour and a half.

We did it at our house with about 10 people. Grandparents and our siblings.
That is all ds will ever get. I am not a party person.

DD's bday is in January so we rented out our towns recreation center and had food catered and hired a clown/magician.

i'm thinking this was directed towards me? if so, I know... but $$ isn't my issue persay. the firehouse can fit like 125 people and with a small party of 30 people or so, I feel like my party will kind of "get lost" in such a big room... I don't have a bunch of kids running around/playing games. if i'm going to spend hundreds on a room out - I want to love it, and since I haven't found anything that thrilled me, i'd rather spend the $$ and do it in the comfort of my own home (or yard haha) where I can just nap dd in her crib whenever she needs it (this was a big concern of mine too).
