At the end of my rope... it takes me up to an hour to put DS down for naps/bedtime!

DS is 11 weeks old, yes, I know, still a newborn by every definition and I shouldn't have high expectations...

He is pretty easy in that he only fusses when he's hungry or tired. He stays up for about 90 minutes at a time and shows signs of sleepiness and is ready for a nap.

BUT it takes me FOREVER to get him to sleep. I usually nurse him until he's just about asleep, pat him on the back for awhile which usually puts him out, then put him in the RnP when his eyes dart open and he gets hysterical. I repeat this over and over and over again and it has taken me anywhere from 7-55 minutes to get it to "stick".

Other stuff I've tried:
-Pacifiers (works sometimes, doesn't love it, wakes up when it falls out)
-Letting him cry 5-10 mins
-Waiting, maybe he isn't tired enough?
-Starting it earlier, maybe he's overtired?
-Taking off his swaddle (he's been breaking out of them a lot lately, but doesn't work, he punches himself in the face)

Any other ideas??
Once he's asleep he's all good, even wakes up and cries in his sleep and puts himself back t sleep, sleeps 6 hour stretches at night. But getting him down is SO HARD!

I used to let DD nurse until I knew she was completely out, bc to me it was easier than playing the game you described in your OP. Other than that, maybe try (if you're not already) to very slowly place him in the r&p and leave your hand on him for a few minutes or shh him if he starts to wake up, but w/o picking him back up. I read this advice from one of Dr Sear's books. Something about the sudden lack of contact wakes them up if they aren't fully asleep, so you kinda have to disconnect from them in stages.

OMG; I read 11 months, not 11 weeks.

At 11 weeks: you can try lots of techniques.
Sorry, I have no advice for you!

What time are you trying to get ds to go to sleep? know my 11w old will not go down for the night till 1030-1130. If we try to get her down any earlier it doesn't work.

Nap time she goes in her swing. If she is fussing I leave her be, I put the music on and the swing. If she cries then I take her out will get her to calm down and will put her back in the swing.

This exactly. At 11 weeks I'd put DS down for the night when he was already asleep usually. Eventually I started putting him down awake and let him fall asleep. And at 5 months old, I still nap him in the swing if he's being difficult.

11 weeks is still young so I say do whatever works!

Is it all the time or just for bedtime? I used to nurse DD till she was fast asleep and hold her for 10 min and gently move her to the RNP or bassinet. This was at night during her fussy time. It was hard but she outgrew it. And yes it would take me hours to get her down. She would be awake and crying on and off for 5-6 hours ugh..she couldn't settle or self soothe and nothing worked just like you said. Hang in there and keep trying things. Does he like the swing?

Any chance he's gassy or has reflux? DS used to freak as soon as I put him down in his bassinet, but totally changed once we changed his formula. Maybe your DS just needs another good burp before he goes down?

Ds is almost 4 months but has a small "window of opportunity" to get him asleep for the night. If I Miss it..it can be horrible. On nights I miss it and he gets very upset i will lay down next to him seaddled and rub his belly and make shhhh sounds in is ears. Also very weird is he likes thing touching his face so of I hold him and let his bear cuddle on/near his face he calms down.
