Local town mom Facebook pages...very cliquish
I joined my local town mom Facebook page a few weeks ago and decided to post on a topic for my first time. In my neighborhood we have an issue every July with neighbors shooting off fireworks starting July 1 to the end of the summer. Well, I wrote how I was so fed up with the constant fireworks every year and how it wakes up my children. I understand 4th of July but I didn't see the point after (even though it is illegal in ny state to set off fireworks). I'm also frightened every year of some inexperienced person setting off a firework and it landing on my roof. Boy did I get "jumped" on my post. I was told to basically suck it up and enjoy it, to explain to my children ( who are four months and four yrs old) the meaning of the fireworks, To not post on this page if i didnt agree, i was accused of not understanding others views, someone posted about this post getting more interesting the more drinks she has, was laughed at, etc. Very juvenile type things. I had wrote that I had no issues with the views of others and all I was asking was consideration of neighbors. I had some people agree with me but most I felt were "jumping" me and getting on the bandwagon. I wound up leaving the group because I don't need this extra stress. Thoughts my fellow moms?

Wow! We do have some people who love to come on and complain about businesses/drs/etc that are loved in the neighborhood for a long time but we all agreed that fireworks after a certain time/hour that were not "organized" (don't get me started on how there was one organized display and now people are soliciting money for it..that irks me) were a pain...so sorry!

Having your first post be something critical was not the ideal way to join in for the first time. I'm guessing they took it the wrong way and got defensive as a group.

The group is a town moms group and I wasn't criticizing the people in the group or their views. The group's purpose is to voice your concerns about things going on in my neighborhood or ask for advice from other local moms. It was more a post out of frustration with what goes on in my town, the lack of police around during this time to enforce this illegal activity and my concern for my children and the safety of my home. Many of the people who commented on my post agreed with me but then I got those that attacked me, laughed at me, and made juvenile comments. I have no problems with differing opinions but I do have a problem dealing with people commenting in childlike ways.

you will get some of that same response here.....it is just life. People will not agree with you and some will state their opinions in not so PC ways.

That's not much different than here - lots of helpful people and some who are just downright rude. Sorry!

This one was the Bellmore Moms Group. I left the group because I didn't need juvenile type reactions. I have that at home already with two kids

I saw that before - I don't post in there, just read through it. They all seem to know each other and it is definitely cliquey.
Not all Bellmore Moms are like that try not to let it get to you.

Re: Local town mom Facebook pages...very cliquish
I just wouldn't join the FB page anymore.
Sounds like it has a subgroup of low class people.
Realistically, fireworks on the 4th of July are tolerable. All Summer? That's not about independence... It's about blowing up stuff.
I'd complain to the police if they were close to my house and disturbing me, my kids, or my dog. A fine is more encouragement than words on a FB page.
Sorry!

Apparently I'm on a different Bellmore Moms page, because I didn't see your post at all. Sorry you had to deal with that. There are lots of nice Bellmore mommies out there!

Yes I think there are two Bellmore mom pages. I stayed with one and left the crazies one. I can't remember what the difference was as far as names
