We have this homedics one (humidifier and sound machine in one) and I LOVE it. Still use it every night with DD at 19 months.

this! but in the summer the window ac does the best! white noise machines should have an ac sound

White noise machines
Love ours! We got a cheapie white one at buybuy babythat does both noise, lullabyes and a projector that shines on the ceiling or walls. It comes with 3 different picture discs. I guess it's the same one others are talking about in this post:

DD falls alseep with the creepy ass Sleep Sheep.
The whale and heartbeat noises are weird to me so we only use the waves and the rainfall one. 
When she was a baby baby we used the white noise app for naps and when she slept in the bassinet. Yes, we just left our iphone on and plugged in all night.
Same for vacations, I have the app on my Kindle so we use it all night as well.
