Alphabet and NUmber Puzzle Recommendations
DD is 18 months and I want to get her some alphabet or number puzzles just to get her familiarized. I was looking at the Melissa and Doug puzzles and also the M&D magnetic chalkboard/dry erase board.

Does anyone have pros/cons on either?

I have that chalkboard as well as the M&D ABC puzzle but the one thing I think helped most familiarize my DS with his letters was this Leapfrog refrigerator ABC toy:

Thanks! Did you have a preference between the chalkboard and the ABC puzzle? or did you find that they served diff purposes?

Re: Alphabet and NUmber Puzzle Recommendations
Rather than a puzzle, we have letters for the bathtub:
Munchkin
And for the refrigerator:
Melissa & Doug
We put them out when DD was about 15 months old, and she picked up a letter or two a week until she hit 19 months or so. Then one day she just knew them all. By 21 months she knew all 26 letters and numbers 0-9.

We have the M&D puzzles, the bath letters/numbers and because DH drives with him every day about 45 minutes, we have the leapfrog letter and number factory dvds.
(I was NOT keen on having him watch dvds everyday but we agreed that it was wasted time in the car and at least the exposure was going to be beneficial.)
We do the puzzles very often together and I talk to him about the sounds and other words with the letter. When he takes a bath, we do the same thing.
DS loves doing the puzzles and what I love is that he is associating letters with words. He picks up the E and I will say E and the sounds and he knows (due to the picture on the puzzle) that E makes the egg, or A makes apple.

I have Melissa and Doug puzzles too, but honestly..the Ipad is what helped my DD learn her letters and numbers that early the most. It helped her speech so much too.
