Do you keep old baby clothes or donate?

I am struggling with giving away all of DD & DS's old clothes that don't fit. I guess it's sentimental and also that feeling of being "done" if we give them away. I'm 99.9% sure we are closing up shop but I am having a hard time giving them away. We will be moving soon and I really need to downsize. Thoughts?

I am not sure if we are done, I really want one more. We have saved all of DS's stuff he is now 3 so I have lots of cloths. If I was sure that I was done I would get rid of it. But I know it pulls at my heart strings to move on to each size :)

Re: Do you keep old baby clothes or donate?

I gave away a lot of my kids clothing to friends and as donations. I kept some special occasion/sentimental ones though. If you think you are done, then I would give them away. Perhaps go through everything and see if there are any stained, or pilled clothing. I would get rid of those items and see if it is easier for you to part with other things. But if you are not ready to close up shop so to speak, then keep everything else.

ds is 7m and I my dh wants me to get rid of all of this clothes that no longer fit. I am putting them all in bins and hiding them from him, cause I am having such a hard time parting with them, plus I am sure that we are not done cause I want at least 1 more.

I kept favorite outfits and special outfits, like holidays, etc.

The rest I gave to friends who had babies after me once we closed up shop here.

If you know you are not done, then I would not get rid of anything except items that are stained, pilled, or torn and not fixable.

I've been giving to friends and donating. I know 100% that I am done though.

ETA. We have kept a few things that are sentimental.

save the top stuff( ie - you remember them wearing it most, or brand name like ralph lauren).... and throw in a vacuum seal bag. Donate the rest.

Re: Do you keep old baby clothes or donate?

I kept some sentimental pieces from my boys like their coming home outfits, christening outfits etc but not much. As a mom of boys, I can't see them being curious to see this stuff as they grow up (my mom saved my stuff & I loved going through it).

I gave a lot away to friends bc I hated to see things go to waste but I've also sold some on the mommas buy sell site on FB. I know we are 100% done & we need storage room for things other then clothes.

Do you keep old baby clothes or donate?

I had my DD's old baby clothes made into a quilt. I used an etsy vendor, Oh Sew Stephanie and the quilt came out great. If you search old posts, I put a pic up of the quilt!Link to pic

Re: Do you keep old baby clothes or donate?

We're about 99% sure we are going to have one more. I have two girls less than 2 years apart. I'm donating all the clothes. I just can't keep them. I have tons and tons and tons of clothes and I really don't have the space to store it anymore. I re-used a lot of the clothing from my first for my second but than I get her some of her own stuff and gifts and it just adds up. We will just buy new for our third if its a girl. I don't feel that bad getting rid of them since I got two uses out of some it.

Re: Do you keep old baby clothes or donate?

This was only our first and putting away the smaller sizes is still a little sad for me so I'm keeping them for now. I'm not sure I could handle giving them away LOL! Plus if we try for #2 and it is a boy I'll kick myself for getting rid of everything.

I would hold on to it, when you're ready to give it away/donate it you'll know Chat Icon

Keeping them for #2 if that's a boy then ill give them away minus the gender neutral stuff (onesies and such) which isn't much!

You'll know when you are ready to give them up. I kept them for a while for sentimental reasons and then one day I woke up and packed up a bunch of clothes for donation and just felt good that some child would be able to use all these beautiful clothes. I give outfits that I particularly loved to friends, but 95% of the stuff I donate and just feel good. It is much easier after the first batch is out the door.

Re: Do you keep old baby clothes or donate?

If we were done I think I'd keep the sentimental outfits and give the rest away to people I know or donate them to goodwill, etc.

I say this now, but when the time comes I could see how it's much easier said than done.

Re: Do you keep old baby clothes or donate?

I still have everything from DD #1. DS is due July 12th. I just want to make sure DS is really a boy before I donate all of DD's stuff! I plan to keep super special outfits in tact (coming home outfit, halloween outfits, etc) and then have a quilt (or two) made out of other special outfits. Anything that is neutral colored will go do DS (but there isn't much, we got tons of pink/purple clothing). The rest will be donated!

I plan to give them away. I can't see hanging onto stuff when what are the odds I have another girl born the same season.

I am however saving the sentimental stuff like her coming home outfit, first Christmas etc and I am going to wrap them beautifully and give her as a gift when she gets older so she has them Chat Icon

Re: Do you keep old baby clothes or donate?

I keep some, holiday related or ones I particularly like, and give the rest away to friends. I have two boys, so most of the stuff has been well used and I honestly can't store it all. I am 99% sure we are done, but I can always buy new clothes if I needed to.

This is me too. Our girls were born 2 years apart, both in the spring so we got two uses out of their clothes. If I can convince DH to have a third and it's another girl, then lucky her, she'll get a lot of new stuff! Chat Icon

The sentimental pieces (coming home outfits etc) I kept in one bin and the outfits I just LOVED, but don't want to use again, my mom is making a quilt with.
