Unvaccinated children playing with vaccinated children...
First off - I recognize this opens the potential for debate, and sh!t-stirring. It's not my intention. Last week, this came up for discussion at my mom meetup group. I'm trying to make an educated decision for my family on the topic and could use other peoples' perspectives.
What are your opinions?
Is your child fully vaccinated? Either way, does your child hang out with vaccinated children, unvaccinated children, both...?
If you do not let your child hang out with unvaccinated children, what are your reasons?

if your child is vax,why would you worry,they should be immune right
unless i am missing it,and by you i don't mean you i mean the general you

Yes,. What I would not do is bring my youngest around who is not yet fully vaccinated. For my fully vaccinated children, I am OK with it.

I would let my vaccinated child play but would think twice if I had an newborn at home as well.
Even vaccinated children can contract these illnesses anyway, though at a much much lower rate. I think the concern is if you would let your child play with another child with a higher risk of having these illnesses than most other children. Vaccines aren't 100% protection.
I think an interesting question is would a parent of an unvaccinated child let them play with another unvaccinated child.

My child is fully vaccinated and I don't know other children who aren't. He goes to daycare so there is a possibility there are some kids who aren't in his class but I think they have to be at his daycare. I could be completely wrong.
Do I think all kids should be vaccinated yes. That is my personal choice. Do I ask parents before he plays with their kids... no...
I should add I have a 4 day old at home. I would think twice about it if she is around. I would keep her away. (But Im trying to keep her away from everyone :)

i don't bring my child's vaccination paperwork with me when she plays
I don't ask another child for 'papers' when she plays with them either
She plays at the outdoor playgrounds in a lot of the restaurants we have here. I never once thought "Are those children vaccinated?"
The topic of vax and children playing NEVER crosses my mind.
Vax don't make her immune
Non-Vax don't make them 'carriers'

My DD is fully vaccinated and I imagine she's played with kids who are not. I wouldn't really think to ask someone if they vaccinated their child before letting my DD played with them.

How are we policing this? Do the unvaccinated kids wear a scarlet "U" on their shirt? Or a biohazard symbol? 
In all seriousness, my children are fully vaccinated and obviously due to "religious exemptions" and other legal loopholes, I'll never really know the status of who they play with at school, at activities, etc. If I went down the path of worrying about this, I would avoid all baby and toddler classes, mommy and me groups, playgrounds, birthday parties, sports teams, airplanes, and theme parks, because you just don't know who you're coming into close contact with at any of these places.

we have friends that have their dc's on delayed schedules but everyone intends on getting fully vaccinated before school.
ds is on schedule and I wouldnt deny him playing with kids that are delayed schedule but I may have concerns about completely unvaccinated kids- but like everyone above I don't know how I would know that.
My concern stems from the fact that I have no immunity to measles despite numerous attempts at the vax. I worry that ds might have inherited that from me and there have been a couple measles outbreaks over the last couple years.

My girls have not had the MMR shot yet. I delayed that. I think they are late on one or two other shots due to being sick at the times when I should have gone in. I plan to get them all their shots. That is an interesting question. Non-vaccinated to non-vaccinated... if it came up I would probably think twice now that you brought it up but more for large public play in indoor places, not for one on one play dates etc.

my children are both fully vaccinated according to their Ped's schedule.
that being said, although I do NOT love the idea of them playing with children who have not been vaccinated, not sure I would know if they have or have not been. Its not like I would ask a parent that. If it came up in conversation its a different story but I would never ask before scheduling a playdate etc.

If I knew... No. My vaccinated kid will not have play dates with non vaccinated kids. Some make sneak through... Can't help that.
Vaccines are not 100%, they rely on herd immunity. If my kid is not 100% protected by his vaccine... Not worth the risk to expose him to a kid who is riding on the backs of herd immunity he or she is not contributing to. NY is a very heterogenous society and there are tons of people with visiting family members with all kinds of exposures.
I honestly don't care if someone else's kid goes deaf or sterile from mumps, measles or the other common diseases that are circulation now that they weren't vaccinated against... Sure as hell I would not knowingly exposure MY own kid to even the teeny tiniest risk.

It made me very nervous with DD was still an infant to be around friends with kids who I knew were not vaccinated. It's an awkward situation to be in, but I didn't keep them away. I felt we were taking just as many risks when we took her to the mall.

this was exactly my thought! how do you know when kids are or arent vaccinated? i dont know anyone that talks about this stuff. I have no clue who of my friends kids are or arent!

My child is fully vax, I wouldn't know if a child was not vaccinated. I never asked anyone, and I would allow him to hang out with unvaccinated child

I wouldn't have a problem with it. However, if I had an infant or a child that was immunocompromised in any way then no I would not let them pay with children who I knew were unvaccinated.

I saw you slip a mask over tiny tot as you approached my house. Don't think I didn't notice.
As to the OP - I never really thought about this. DD is slightly behind schedule but not enough for me to be concerned. She's not even 2 yet. I don't think i'd keep her away from playdates with unvaccinated children.

We've (knowingly) had playdates with kids that are totally unvaccinated and those who are on schedule. I don't have an issue with it. No matter what vaccination schedule I choose for my children, they will be exposed to illnesses.

I know that a child in our group is not vaccinated, neither is his mother (we talk about these things at my mom groups - "Oh man...Meg hated getting her shots at the ped today. How's that going for you guys...?"). I LOVE them so much and enjoy spending time with them. I guess I want to know more about the idea of 'herd immunity' and whether or not its a valid claim. I'd hate to break off the friendship but I want to fully understand the risk. I have a call into my ped about it....

Based on what is happening in Brooklyn right now, I would definitely think twice about letting my kids play with an unvaccinated child. I believe my kids are protected b/c they are vaccinated, but I also believe that it is posible to contract a disease (hopefully on a less severe level)even if you are vaccinated.
I don't shy away from parks, libraries, etc. But if I was invited somewhere and had knowledge that there was a possibility of exposure I would say no.
