Now that this is a pattern of sexual behavior that the school is aware of, it is not unreasonable for them to make a report to CPS and if I were you I would demand they do so in a timely manor. If they don't I would look into filing a report with the police.

holy shit this just turned my stomach, I agree with your dh file a report maybe they will look into it more and see if your feelings about more going on at home are justified. These poor kids

Poor ds! Thank goodness you are taking it up with the school. It's good that your DS told you and didn't hide it.
The older child may be having issues at home, best to tell the school.

I read this this morning and have been thinking about it all day. What a God awful situation. The school should probably be the one to report it to CPS, but it SHOULD be reported. So disturbing..... Please keep us posted.

I got sick reading this, for you, your son and this john boy. I think the advice given above is the best. I really hope its nothing too serious going on in his home. My God, the thought of it is horrible. Good luck.

I cannot even imagine what you're all going through. My stomach is in knots as I imagine myself in this position.

Do everything you can to report this. Listen to your husband and go to the school and tell everyone in the school. This is sad and scary. Maybe, bring your son to a psychologist so he can understand what happened and make sure it doesn't happen again.

I'm a teacher and I would just stop sending my child to school there, while I sorted everything else out. It's a personal decision whether or not you feel like you want to involve the police. But the school definitely needs to be confronted.

Oh. My. God. I cannot even imagine what must be going through your head as a parent. I'm just seriously alarmed that a school that KNEW this child had issues...specifically with sexual issues was left ALONE in a room with another child or children. Very irresponsible!

I think I would absolutely file a report...this kid "john" needs his surroundings checked out...you could potentially be saving him from sexual molestation.

Not the reaction I'd thought you'd get. I'm glad you filed the report. Something is avoided by the school and that's wrong.

I think you have handled this the absolute best you could. Kudos to you and your DH for keeping your wits about you in a tough situation.

I am so sorry for your family and for John. You are doing everything right. I'm not sure what I would do in your situation.

I would not automatically think it is the parents who are abusing him. It could be another relative, neighbor, etc.

Your update really intrigues me. As someone who is also a mandated reporter and has worked with this population before, I'm very bothered by the school's response. You and your DH handled it perfectly. But I can't imagine a teacher and director (who are BOTH mandated reporters) not taking this more seriously. They could get in serious trouble if CPS becomes involved and it comes to light that they were aware of the situation. When children are so young and don't necessarily have the language to properly explain what happened, you HAVE to err on the side of caution. You just have to.

If you are looking for further advice (but please, just take it if you feel comfortable) I would let the director know that the report has been filed because you and your DH weren't comfortable with the response, and as a mandated reporter your DH felt an obligation to report it. Maybe they will start to take it more seriously when they know it's already out there being investigated.

The original story was troubling, but I am honestly shocked at the school's response. It's very upsetting that they are not taking this seriously. What a stressful situation to be in.

I am glad that you filed a police report.

I think I would have to consider pulling my child from the school based on their insufficuent response. What other things are they not taking seriously?

I'm shocked that the school's response wasn't more serious. I will say I'm not surprised they didn't bring up other incidents since they do have to consider the privacy of the students involved. The fact that this is a 5 year old in the same class as 3 year olds is so troubling to me. Clearly they are not being supervised as well as they need to be. I don't think I could continue to have my child stay in that same class. So sorry your family is going through this.

I am really disappointed to hear that the school did not take this matter seriously. I think you did the right thing by filing a report. I would also pull my son from the school, if it were me.

What happened to your son (and could possibly be happening to the other child) is disturbing enough. But the school's reaction...I'm sorry, but I just can't accept that. I'm so glad your DH filed the report. I sincerely hope this turns out to be just a curious kid, but I would definitely reconsider that school. Sound slike they're more interested in protecting their reputation than the children they care for.

so horrifiying!! so sorry!! But question.. what is a 3 year old doing in a 5 year old class or vice versa??? Arent' there age groups for the class rooms! Not even to mention how unsupervised this classroom is that this could do on and no one notice!!!
