Anyone's DC not make the Pre-K cutoff by one day?
My twins will be 3 on December 2nd. There is a 3 year old pre K program in our district and they have to be 3 by December 1st. Has anyone tried to argue this before? DH wants me to call the school and argue it, but I have a friend who's niece has the same birthday. She's 8. Her mom tried to argue it back then and didn't win. Do you think it's worth it? I know they'll do great in pre K. They are very smart and catch on pretty easily and i think going to Pre K will be great for them now. But i don't think the school will budge. What do you ladies think?

What is the cutoff for Kindergarten in your district?
If it's also 12/1, they won't go to Kindergarten until 2016, so you will have an extra year to deal with if you put them in the 3yo program now.

So they really have 3 years left until Kindergarten?
If you got them into the 3 yo program now, and then 4 yo next year, what would you do the following year?

would argue it to get them into Pre K for the 3 and 4 year old program and Kindergarten. This is what DH is thinking I should do. I;m just not sure they'll even consider it.

I would call Central Office for your district to see if getting them into K early is even a possibility.
Some districts will allow it with testing, but some absolutely will not. And would you separate the twins if one does test and get in early and one doesn't?

Thanks! I wouldn't want to separate them. I guess I'll start by calling and seeing if they'll even allow it.

I highly doubt it. You and many others might want to chang the cutoff. Birthdate is birthdate when it comes to admissions.

Many private schools have a December 31 cut off, so that is an option for kindergarten. Then you can switch back to public for 1st

I don't know if this an option anymore but that is what my mom did with me. My birthday is Dec 19, she put me in a private k program and then went to public for 1st.

My DD did not make the Kindergarten cut off by 6 days and is unfortunately the oldest in her Pre-k class. In my school district it's December 1st but she attends parochial school.

Depends on the district.
My school used to allow the dec 31 date (we are a private school) but then the district stopped letting those children receive books to use for the kindergarten year. Parents used to be able to fight it but because of money issues now the district will not bend. Honestly, I know it seems a pain now but in most cases it's better for children to be the older ones in their class than the youngest.
But if you feel strongly about it, make the necessary calls and see if anything can or will be done for you. Good luck whatever you decide!
