Moms of 2 plus kids

I am due to have my baby in about 2 weeks and I am really having panic attacks. Please tell me that it will be ok. I have so many worries and things going through my head which I know is normal.

How long does it take to get used to two kids. I have 2 year 3 month old.

Also, for baby number two, was your labor similar? Did it take as long? Was it easier. Was the second baby earlier compared to the first? Any info you can share might calm me down a bit.

Thanks :)

Moms of 2 plus kids

I was nervous too-so that's normal. I found the adjustment of going from 1 to 2 EASIER than 0 to 1. It's all about routine. Once you get into a routine, you will be fine. My labor the second time around was a lot easier and shorter. Everything will be fine!!!

I think it's very normal to be nervous...it'll all work out and your love for baby #2 will be just as huge as your love for baby #1 -- it will amaze you!
I agree with PP that going from 0 to 1 baby was way harder than going from 1-2. My labor and delivery for #2 was much quicker and easier than for #1 and I really enjoy seeing them play together and love each other. Giving a child a sibling is giving them a playmate for life.
Good luck!

Dd2 is 1 month old.

Labor was so much easier this time. I labored for 16 hrs and pushed for 4 of them with dd1. I was awful for a few weeks after. This time within 6 hrs I had #2 and pushed for about 10 mins tops. Recovery has been great. I barely felt any pain.

It's been a little hectic with 2 but b/c #1 is a very hard child always has been. It just takes longer to get ready and out. I don't find it hard just hectic.
Dd1 adjusted very well. No big issues. She just makes these awful noises, like fake crying, for attention

Good luck

Thanks! How much quicker? I am due on May 12th but my last work day (if she doesn't come in may 10th). I am worried I will go into labor in BK.

My son was just born 5 wks ago and my DD is 4.5. It's more work for sure but you will find your groove and figure it out. The first days were the hardest, especially with recovering from a C-section, but once I was feeling better it was easier to manage. I feel like I have my routines down now so I can get everything done while taking care of them both. Some days are easier then others but you will get the hang of it regardless. I just tell myself I am not the first person to have more than one kid, and many have way more then two, and they all lived to tell the tale. lol It will be fine, I promise. It just might take a little time for it all to start flowing and feel like second nature. Congrats and good luck. Chat Icon

Re: Moms of 2 plus kids

My girls are two years apart. I was SOO nervous, but more about DD1's reaction then how I would handle everything. Turns out, I worried for nothing bc she was and still is perfectly fine.

It was an adjustment having a newborn in the house again, but DD1 was very communicative at 2 years old so that helped. We also kept our nanny part time during my maternity leave so clearly that was a huge help. I got to spend a lot of time with each child separately. My advice...keep older DC's schedule the same as much as possible. Naps, bedtime etc...don't change it up too much. They're already feeling the change of the new baby. Also-as often as you can-put older DC's needs before the baby's. The baby can cry for a few mins, but older DC may notice you tending to the baby before him/her.

My labor/delivery with DD2 was MUCH faster (ie: no time for drugs! Chat Icon ).

DD2 will be a year old next month and I truly can't remember life without her! It all works out perfectly!

ETA: DD1 came at 36 weeks; DD2 at 38 weeks

Re: Moms of 2 plus kids

I was extremely nervous bc my boys are extremely close in age (10.5 months). We had a month to adjust before we brought home #2 bc he was 8 weeks early.

I had 2 sections but labored with both boys. Very similar situations. It took a good 6-8 weeks before I got a semi routine down but that's bc I also had my mom stay with us. I had a newborn & 1 year who was yet to walk. It got easier as time went on. I think when you just tell yourself you have no other option, you find ways to work it. There were times I was rocking both kids in my arms for a nap or feeding.

Now my boys are 3.5 & 2.5, we still have challenges but we function without incident 9/10 times.

It was still hours before I had her. I was int he hospital for 6 hrs before and labored for a few hours at home and actually even consistent contractions for a few days before.

Dd2 was 4 days late. Dd1 was 2 days early

Re: Moms of 2 plus kids

My labor with #2 was half the time of #1...(9 hours vs. 4 hours)...#1 was 2 days early, #2 was a full week early...

Re: Moms of 2 plus kids

My ds was the same exact age as yours when our baby was born. It took no time at all for us to get used to 2 kids. We had to jump right into it. Sink or swim, you know?Baby fit right in & ds was never jealous. #1 was born 7 days late & #2 was born 10 days early. My second labor took half the time of the first. I found it much easier. So easy that I feel like if I get preg with a #3, I'd be able to sneeze it out- lol

Good luck! Everything will be fine Chat Icon

Moms of 2 plus kids

DS # 1 will be 2 on May 11th, DS # 2 is 1 month old today. Like PP, I found it easier going from 1-2 than 0-1. I was already in "mommy" mode, I was just adding another to the mix. It is more work, but not anything I can't handle. I'm still somehow finding time to be MOH in my BFF's wedding in August, planning her shower & bachelorette party, all with the 2 boys and a DH who works crazy hours. It will all work out, you will be fine!!
With DS # 1 I was due 5/2, induced at 7:30pm on 5/10, and he was born at 3:26pm on 5/11. I had him vaginally but it just took forever for me to get to 10 cm.
Ds # 2, I was due 3/30, started feeling contractions at 3am on 3/24, got to hospital at 7am, gave birth at 12:01am 3/25. My 2nd delivery was way easier than my first!

Re: Moms of 2 plus kids

I found it easy to transition to two kids. But tats because my older DS has always been my tougher one and DS 2 was an easy baby.
As for labor, both of my boys were late. I was induced with my first 6 days past my due date. With my second I went into labor 4 days past my due date. Labor with DS 2 moved super fast! I went into active labor around 1am and had a any by 6:30am.

I didn''t go from 1 to 2 - I went from 1 to 3 but other than that there were times that were tricky but the anxiety of the next stage is always worse then the next stage. I always say that I am scared of something about the next stage in live for my kids but once you are in - it seems like no big deal

My labor for my first twin - was easier - just fast - he was born within 2 hours of my water breaking - waiting for my brother to come so we could go to the hospital was probably the hardest wait.

take help when you can get it in the beginning and sleep if you need it - the hardest part is their is no down time in the beginningwith 2 - if your older one naps it is not always when the baby naps - and you are up in the middle of the night- so if someone offers to come over and you tired - let them entertain the kids while you rest or relax ont he couch while they make a meal - I know easier said then done

Re: Moms of 2 plus kids

from 1 to 2 was no problem but mine were 7 years apart.
2 to 3 was hard for me- they were 19 months apart.
3 to 4 is ok but alot of work.
i was induced with my first at 41 weeks, babies 2,3,4 came on their own mid 38 weeks. all 3 labors were around 14 hours, baby 4 was a section bc she was breech.
you will be ok.... you gotta take the good days with the bad
