Bf moms...plugged milk duct

Anyone have any experience treating this? I had pain after nursing lady night and woke up in the middle of the night the pain was so bad. I assume its a plugged duct bc it's just one spot on one breast. I'm continuing to nurse and took Tylenol,
Should I be calling my doctor?
What can i do to help with the pain?

I used to get them all the time. Here is what I did to clear them up. Get a comb to take with you into the shower. Take a very warm and steamy shower. This should help you isolate where the clog is. The warm water and steam will make the area red and it may even be tender to touch. Soap up the comb and use it to brush out the clog. It works best when you sit on the floor of your tub and lean forward to allow gravity to help you. Hand express as you go along moving the comb across the clog and toward the nipple. Watch where the milk comes out of as you hand express and see if there are any clogged holes. Don't be afraid to apply a little extra muscle to it.

After the shower nurse your baby. If you can try and lean forward as you do. Massage your breast in the area of the clog while your baby nurses. The pain and other symptoms should disappear as soon as you clear the clog.

I had this when my dd was about 2 months old. I read to just lay on my side and have her nurse as much as possible. So we did that in the morning in my bed, but those were the days she would fall asleep nursing, and then wake up and start again. It worked for me! Gl

I agree with the shower... Or ever fill a diaper with hot water and just let it sit on your breast. And then make sure to massage the area.... Yes it's painful to the touch but you need to get the area to soften up and eventually unclog. I had this a couple of times and this method def worked for me.

Eta: I used to EP so I'd massage the area while on the pump and you know it's becoming unclogged when actual lumps and stringy milk start to come out... Sounds and looks gross but it is most definitely okay for the baby to consume... I googled it

My best advice is:

-hot compresses in your bra right on the spot (this will sound odd, but filling up a small size diaper with warm/hot water works REALLY well!)
-LOTS of major massage on the spot the the clog is
-when nursing, position the baby so that his or her nose is pointing directly to the clog. Their suck is strongest right at the top middle of the mouth, so you want that part working directly on the clog.

I would fill a zip lock bag with warm water and put it on the spot for 20 min before I would pump or feed and while pumping I would massage the spot pretty hard. It hurt but it worked!

This keeps happening to me too. A warm washcloth with a heat pack over it for 20 min, then comb it and then nurse the baby as long as you can (one time it took 45 min of DD nursing on that one side) and in all different positions. You may need to repeat the above steps several times a day ugh. My last lump took 3 days to come out. Also a friend suggest a hot bowl of water and lean your boob in there.

Also if you spike a 102 fever or higher and experience flu like symptoms I would call the dr. But otherwise lumps are normal...painful...but normal. Hang in there!

Google for dangle nursing. That worked well for me!
