Emergency Alerts on Verizon Wireless
So I have been getting these for a while now and I think they are pretty cool.
I had a few tornado warnings over the summer, flash flood warnings, alerts for the hurricane etc.
So I just got one now. Scared the cr@p out of me. I thought there was a terrorist threat or something.
It says-
SEVERE ALERT
Blizzard Warning this area until 1 pm EST Saturday. Prepare. Avoid Travel. Check media.
Ok, well fine.
Then it goes on
Alert type- Severe Alert
Severity- Extreme (Extraordinary threat to life or property)
Urgency- Expected (Responsive action should be taken soon- WITHIN THE NEXT HOUR)
Really?
Severe?
EXTRAORDINARY threat to life or property?
Prepare within the next hour?
Isn't that a bit much for snow storm that is almost 24 hours away?
I think they need to tone it down just a drop....
I find it hard to take these seriously when they are worded like this every single time!

Does anyone know how to put them ON your phone, and remove them? I don't know how, but I have it on. I want the option of removing it.

Luckily someone else got it first so I knew it was coming (I heard the tone down the hallway!)

A bunch went off in my office and we were all joking that the NWS only cares about some of us and not everyone 
but yes, scared the crap out of everyone! A little melodramatic, and the timing isn't right (its not 6 a.m tomorrow, its 6 pm)

My mom has a non smartphone from verizon and she gets them. Dh and I have iphones 4 and 4s and we don't get them. I have no idea

Settings>Notifications>at bottom Government alerts, turn them on if you want the alerts

DEAR GOD< I got that alert and it almost made me crash my car. Scared the bejesus out of me. I didn't even know it was my phone, since it had a seriously scary alert sound.

I don't have that option on my iPhone 4s. My friend has the 4 and she got the alert at 4 pm when we were in a meeting together at work. I didn't.
