3 Questions about Gas Drops, Prune Juice and Swaddling

#1: How often to you give gas drops/gripe water? I try to only do it when needed, but I feel like I'm always giving it to her

#2: If you gave prune juice for constipation how long did you give it? Ped suggested once a day until she goes, I decreased to every other day and then she only goes every other day. Can I keep giving it to her daily?

#3: How old was DC when you stopped swaddling? I only swaddled DD#1 for about 3 weeks and then she was fine w/o it. DD#2 is 2 months - I swaddle at night mainly to keep a blanket on her since its cold (DD1 was born in spring/summer) But she seems to need it to stay asleep for naps unless I'm holding her.

I forget - maybe 6 - 6.5 months? She pretty much became the hulk and told us she didn't want to be swaddled anymore.

#1: How often to you give gas drops/gripe water? Giving it to DS exactly as instructed on bottle. I think it equates to every 3-4 hrs. But the last two days I've noticed we have been able to scale down

#2: If you gave prune juice for constipation how long did you give it? Never done

#3: How old was DC when you stopped swaddling? DS HATES swaddling... I think we lasted 3 weeks if that...

Have you ever tried cocyntal? You can find it at all natural food stores or on amazon.

They're all natural colic drops, but I always gave them to my son for ANY belly problems. Constipation, gas, etc. It helps within 10 minutes. I feel like it works way better than gripe water, prune juice, etc.

Re: 3 Questions about Gas Drops, Prune Juice and Swaddling

#1. Gas drops and gripe water do not work on the same issues. Gas drops help with gas and gripe water helps with an upset belly. That being said, when they were little we used gripe water ALL the time. I felt ok about it bc it is mostly fennel and ginger. We gave gas drops as needed, but they were needed often. How often? im not sure. We had preemie infant twins with colic and refulx. So that first 8 months is very blurry.

#2 we did not use prune juice until they started solids. we mixed a few ml into their cereal.

#3 we didn't stop swaddling until they were almost 10 months old (8 months adjusted), otherwise they would not sleep EVER.

Re: 3 Questions about Gas Drops, Prune Juice and Swaddling

I used gas drops every feeding. I would just drop it in his bottle. I tried gripe water but it did nothing so I stopped it quick.

Never used prune juice

I swaddled for a few weeks. DS wanted no part of it. He liked to be free.

I swaddled my triplets until 6 months. I noticed that the premade swaddles (with the Velcro) seemed to stop at 6 months - I couldn't find bigger sizes. Plus they started to roll onto their bellies even in the swaddles and I was afraid that having their arms restricted could pose a suffocation risk if they couldn't push themselves over. Maybe I was just paranoid!

Also I used it for naps and to calm them down if they were having meltdowns - both advocated in Happiest BAby on the Block

Re: 3 Questions about Gas Drops, Prune Juice and Swaddling

#1 - gas drops in every bottle from 5-12 weeks... now im going to do it as needed

#2 - i only gave her prune juice once (but my dr had said an ounce 2x daily until she went)... but i have a friend who gave her daughter prune juice daily starting at 8 weeks

#3 - dd is just about 3 months and we're still swaddling her. I dont see it ending anytime soon. We stopped from the time she was 2 weeks through 5 weeks bc once she realized she had arms, it made her angry bc she wanted to be free. But when i started back up at 5 weeks, she began sttn. Shes a very restless sleeper so she really needs it.

1 - dr told me to use gas drops at every other feeding so that's what i did. Used it from about 6 weeks till about 12 weeks old

3 - DS *hates* being swaddled so we only did it for a few days. He doesn't move too much in his sleep though so we didn't really need it.
