How long did you keep DC rear facing in carseat?

DD is 21 mo and still tolerates it fine. We're adding in the infant seat for #2 and I don't know how this is going to work. I'm sure if we put her front facing it would make the seat fit better (right now it looks like it can't go behind the driver or passenger without moving the seat all the way forward and we even have an SUV to boot!). My plan was to put baby in the middle and older DD behind the passenger so someone can sit next to baby if necessary but it's looking like that might not really work with the seat backwards.

I think I've heard they now want them rear facing until 2, is that right? I'm actually seeing my Ped today so I'll run it by them but I wanted to see what the consensus was here.

How does everyone else have this set up?

How long did you keep DC rear facing in carseat?

DD is 18 months and still RFing. I have captain seating in my 2nd row, so she is behind the passenger. DD is 90th percentile for height and fits just fine. And our car seat is a giant monster. I don't plan on turning her around until at least 2 years old.

How long did you keep DC rear facing in carseat?

I kept DD1 RF until 4, DD2 is still RF at 2

It sounds like your problem is that you can't fit the seats side by side, which is common. You may not get the seats to be correctly and independently installed in that configuration even if you turn the seat FF. I highly suggest taking the time to see a tech if you really want the seats side by side.

Current AAP recommendation is to remain RF until at LEAST age 2, but this doesn't mean your pediatrician is up on the latest recs (many are still giving out the old 1 and 20 recommendation, sadly)

DS was 18 months.

He was getting so bored looked at the back seat. He immediately became a kid who stayed awake during drives.

Thank you. I actually am going to have them installed professionally, I tried with DD's when she was a baby and that was a disaster. I will go with what they recommend but I was trying to at least get an idea of what I'd *like* to do if possible.

Re: How long did you keep DC rear facing in carseat?

DS was kept rearfacing until about 26 months. I only turned him bc I was having a hard time getting him in the seat, he was just too heavy (90%ile weight and height). He was quite comfortable RF though.

How long did you keep DC rear facing in carseat?

I turned DD at 15 months. She hated being in the car and would just cry and it made for a very unpleasant ride....even if it were only 5 minutes. We went to Florida and DH couldn't secure the car seat RF but we were able to secure it FF and she was like a different child. So when we came home from that trip we decided to turn her.

Re: How long did you keep DC rear facing in carseat?

I switched dd at 27 months. With both seats rf no one could get into our middle seat and I drive my friends dd to school sometimes. My dd was 26lbs when we turned her and I felt she was big enough. She loves facing foward. I'll keep dd2 rf for at least 2 years which is what my ped reccomends.

DS was 2.5. We only turned him because he was over the weight and height limits to be RF. He was 38 lbs, and 40" tall. I would have kept him RF until he hit those limits regardless.

Will do the same for DS2.

Re: How long did you keep DC rear facing in carseat?

She is 15 months and still rear facing. My goal is to at least 2, but we will see. SHe is very tall. SO far she's ok. She gives me a problem going into the seat, but she's fine once I'm driving.
