Infant carseat without base

I have a chicco that can be used without the base. It says so on the stickers on the seat as well as in the manual. I would look in the manual for your seat, and if you don't have it, call the company directly to ask them.

Also, personally I would make sure that I was able to install it into the car correctly. Infants are supposed to he seated at a certain angle (I believe its between 30 & 45 degrees) for breathing as well as maximum safety in case of an accident. The seat also shouldn't be able to shift or move more then 1" I believe, from where its anchored too.

Maybe look up and go to a certified installer prior to the baby being born to be certain.

I have a chicco and you can, it tells you on the side how to do it but thatnwould be quite a hassle every time going out having to mess aroundwith seat belts and make sure its tight enough etc...

My husband doesnt want to use base because he doesnt want to leave the base in his car if the baby is not going out. So he said it is better not to use it instead of putting it back and forth. I know its not safe though. He also said that the leather of seat will be ruined.

You can use without the base with many brands but just know you have to re install the seat every time you take the seat in and out. That's honestly the reason to have an infant seat is the ease of in and out. If I wasn't going to use the base I'd probably get a convertible instead.

You can also look into the smaller snug ride. Mine went up to 20-22 lbs. it wa much smaller than the snug 30

I would just explain to your husband that the safety of your baby is more important than his leather car seats. I would be pissed if my husband ever said that! And what does it matter if the base is in the car? If he carpools to work and needs room for others, ok, then I can see it being an issue but if it is for superficial reasons I personally would tell him to get over it.

This.

And it's soooooo much easier to take the base out and move it then deal with trying to secure the infant seat with seatbelts. The base clicks in with LATCH and you tighten and go. The way he's trying to do it is waaaaay more work and honestly, not as safe. He's being ridiculous IMO. Sorry.

I would worry about the safety and wouldnt worry about the leather seats.
Tell your DH they make car seat protectors. Like this one. It will protect the leather.

How often is the baby going to be in his car? DH and I each have a car and take mine 99% of the time when going out so we never bought an extra base. If we were going to use his car I would move the base and reinstall it. It is NOT better to not use it imo. The safety of a child should trump the seats in a car. Plus if they are maintained properly (cleaned and conditioned) then the should be able to withstand the base and should return to normal after the base is removed.

As far as the seats being ruined, they do have the seat protectors, but be aware that they are an aftermarket add on and not recommended by car seat installers. They could inhibit the proper installation of the seat increasing risks in an accident.

You said you have a convertible seat also, do you take that in and out of the car everytime because of the seats being ruined?

I had those but the car seat inspector said they're not safe.

he goes to work 5 days a a week. so probably once a week. no he doesnt remove the convertible but we are fighting about it. he said i installed it too tight and the leather will be ruined. i said i have to do it that way. i
when my 20 months was still a baby i just used the carseat without the base and use the seatbelt because he doesnt want to. i seat in the back to hold the seat everytime we go out.
i am so pissed of him thinking of his car and not the babies.
he told me what if somebody ride his car and the base was there so theres no space for them. i dont care about his friends! i care about my kids. i dont have a car and dont know how to drive yet. but weather he likes it or not i will install it.

Seriously???? You "hold" the seat??? How does that help if god forbid you're in a car crash??? That isn't safe AT ALL. I don't mean to be rude but based on what you wrote, your DH sounds like a selfish idiot.

Who gives a $hit about his cars leather seats and who cares about his friends..........you have an infant to protect. That trumps all in my book. I seriously can't even believe what you're telling us, it just sounds beyond comprehension to me that a father would put the safety of his baby last.

I cannot believe what I'm reading right now!!!! You mean to tell me that he's more concerned for his leather seats than his own childrens safety???? Mind blowing!!! Truly mind blowing!!!
Your DH is being a selfish ahole!!! If I were you I'd be LIVID!!
Maybe he should leave his seatbelt off for fear of wrinkling his work shirt too. What a jerk.

ITA!!! I can't imagine a parent arguing a seat is too tight in the car. My instruction manual specifically states that the seat should not be able to move more then 1" in any direction (front to back, side to side or up and down) from where it is anchored from (either the base of the seat or the top where it is tethered)

Honestly at this point I would find a certified car seat installer ( HERE - http://www.nhtsa.gov/cps/cpsfitting/index.cfm ) And have a PROFESSIONAL tell him what is right and wrong. If you want I would even be glad.to look up you tube videos of what happens to a child in an accident if a car seat isn't installed correctly. I can't imagine anyone not wanting a car seat installed tight after watching them.

I am seriously fuming for you. Children in properly installed carseats (as well as properly harnessed in, especially without big winter coats) is a pet peeve of mine and it KILLS me that your DH is being so irresponsible as a parent. I am sorry that you have to go through all of this since you obviously know in your heart what is best. Unfortunately G-d forbid if anything were to happen, holding the seat isn't going to be much of a help....

wow.. Im a lil in shock.. I understand that people love their cars and dont want to have them ruined but unfortunately the safety of your child should take priority... I would def be upset and furious if I were you.. He really needs to concern himself more with the baby then the car.. it sounds really selfish to me.. Sorry your going through that! :(

I personally can't even tell if this is real because I don't know a mother out there who would let their newborn/infant/toddler ride in a car seat that's not properly installed.

Babies are dirty, messy (wonderful, beautiful) creatures. I can't understand how someone could be so concerned about the leather car seats when I'm sure the baby is at home spitting up and worse on any and everything.

If this post is real, then I really hope you get pulled over by a police officer who gives you lots of tickets for improperly securing a child in the car. Because I'm more concerned about your children's well-being than anything else.

Agreed on every point. And after reading that they HOLD the seat I have a hard time believing this is a real post.

yes this is real. im holding the seat because i didnt put it tight using the seatbelt. its hard for me to do it before because it was my first time and first baby and i didnt know anything about the law. since our country doesnt use car seat at all. we can just ride a car with a baby in front passenger seat and carry the baby on our lap without seat belt either. so as a new parent and to avoid arguing with my hubby i follow his instruction not to put the base at all and put hte seatbelt. its a little loose thats why im holding it whenever he makes turn because the seat was moving.
yes unbelievable that my husband is such an idiot. but he really is a self centered person. i hope this time he will change since were going to have 2 kids now. thanks for all the replies and for those who think this is not really happening.... it is really true and God knows im telling the truth.
