A few months after my mom passed away, I just felt like I needed to get away by myself - and it was one of the BEST things I have ever done! I went to Sanibel Island, FL (wanted somewhere quiet, wasn't looking for night life, etc.). I had a spa day, rented a bike and rode all over the island, walked the beach, went on a dolphin watching sailing excursion. It was so great to not have to answer to anyone, not have to do what anyone else wanted to do, or thought I should do. I truly loved it! (It was a little awkward going to dinner by myself, but after the first day I really didn't care).

I also have a friend who went to Domincan Republic, to an all inclusive, by herself. She just wanted to go on vacation and no one else was able to go at that time. She had fun, met a bunch of women who were there for a "girls getaway" who happend to live near her, and my friend wound up hanging out with them most of the time she was there.

i have not gone on a specific vacation by myself, but i have gone on many trips where I was solo. For example, for work conferences, I am alone. While I am there for work, I try to find time to explore the city myself. Another time I took a cruise with a friend, but she got sick and stayed in bed all day. Since I already paid for excursions, I did them on my own.

If you are thinking of doing something solo, and you dont mind time alone, do it! Just pick somewhere safe (not sure if I would go to a non-english speaking country by myself) and stay in a central location with good reviews.

I have never traveled alone other than work travel.

I once met a friend from Russia in Switzerland for a week but we shared a hotel room and did almost everything together so I'm not sure if that counts.

I was just thinking that I would LOVE to go somewhere alone. I have interests that my husband doesn't really share plus I have major mommy/wife/teacher burnout so I would like to go somewhere and just explore...where no one can drive me crazy.

I never have. But have thought about it a lot. Especially recently.

I like to get right up, grab a quick bite to eat, and get out to sightsee.
DH is the complete opposite.

I would love to do it. But I know he wouldn't like the idea.


ETS: I do go and see my daughter and the grandkids alone. But I don't think that's the same thing.
He's OK with that.

I love to do it! Luckily my husband understands and has no problem with it... unless I'm going to Disney. ;)

I never have and never would. I have too much fun on vacations and cant imagine enjoying myself and turning my head and not seeing my DH or DS.

An overnight getaway alone to have me time(if I did) wouldnt really be a vacation.

I have and I loved it. I went sailing for a week in the carribbean on a charter sailboat about 10 years ago and it was amazing. I also did Club Med by myself a couple of times when I was younger and single.

I went to London and Paris by myself for a week a couple of years ago.

I have only stayed with family alone, and even then I really missed DH after a few days. I don't think I would want to vacation alone. Part of the fun is sharing it all with DH.

I'm really not a person who likes to really do anything alone, nor am I am a person who usually just makes random friends, though we did make good friends on our last cruise, which I did not expect.

I have never done it but think it sounds awesome.

I have tagged along on DH's work trips where he's worked the whole time, and i've done entire foreign cities/areas alone (and loved it). Not quite the same thing as what you're saying, but still. I think it's a great idea.

Went on a cruise alone about 3 years ago.

It was a good experience and I'd do it again.

I haven't but I have a friend that went to Australia for a month after graduation. She booked it through a tour group so she met many new people that she still keeps in touch with.

I went alone to Club Med about 20 years ago. Had an absolutely fabulous time. I was the only single person in my group of friends and just wanted to get away.
If I were to go solo again, I'd either go on a cruise or to St. John, which I love.

When I graduated college I went to Europe by myself. I was part of a tour, but had a single room. I wanted he safety of being with a group, but the independence of being on my own and doing what I wanted, when I wanted.

When I graduated from college I went backpacking with a friend and her boyfriend in Europe, after a few weeks I didn't really like her boyfriend so I left them and travelled onwards by myself for a week. It felt great to be on my own. I would love a few days on my own now,

I did and it was amazing. I went to Italy for 2 weeks after getting out of a long, horrible relationship. I don't speak a word of Italian and was really nervous but once I was there it was fantastic!

I don't see my DH enough to travel without him. But if I was single I would.

I do know someone who went on a cruise alone.....AND met her husband on it (who was there with his friends).

A few times, I did a long weekend skiing, a Club Med and a Windjammer Cruise. All were actually very social not real "alone" vacations but I was able to do what I wanted when I wanted and it was great.

I haven't but, like OP have said, I don't think it's a bad idea.

Personally, I would take Jet Blue to FL, get a rental car and stay at a hotel on the beach. You get the "getaway" but still safe travelling alone.

I went on a business trip alone - to Texas.

I have never gone anywhere personal alone but I know people who have done cruises, like river cruises and tours of Europe and such - they did a tour specifically for people who are traveling alone. You can google that type of trip and see, I'm sure there are organized tour groups and things that do those trips.

If you just wanted to go alone I think I could see myself going someplace not TOO far like Block Island - where it is quiet and serene. I love to paint, I would love to just rent a beach cottage, go there, paint until I'm blue in the face, ride bicycles into town and eat lobster rolls, and just have ME time - I could totally see myself doing that.

I never have nor would I want to. I would much rather be away with either DH or DH and DD then go anywhere alone. Just not my thing.

I dont know if this counts but i spent 2 days alone in London, i was there with DH for hs job but didnt see him at all for two days. It was the awesomest thing ever. Loved exploring on my own.

I went to San Francisco and Seattle alone when I was like 19...man, that was awhile ago ! I went out there for some concerts. Friend bailed on me at the last minute. I wasn't going to miss the shows. Met some cool people, saw some great concerts. Visited a couple of museums.

I'd do it again - especially for a concert. Only thing is, DH is my partner-in-crime when it comes to concerts. So i'm sure he'd be by my side.

I'm very comfortable with doing things solo - going to movies, going to a restaurant, museums, that kind of thing. And I fly to visit my family in FL by myself a few times a year (DH comes on some of those trips, but not all)...so for me, it works.

He may have to go to Amsterdam for a business trip in a few months and I might tag along and sightsee alone during the day, while he's working.
And hitting the coffee houses. Ha.
