When/how old do you stop swaddling?

Hi,
My son is 4 mos old yesterday and I'm finally transitioning him out of the FP Rock N Play. He's still in our room and in a pack and play for the last week or so. Will move him to the crib this weekend after DH and I put it together .
I'm still swaddling him in the miracle blanket. He's been busting out of it the last few weeks no matter how tight I wrap him. He's a strong little guy. My DD did great in it til almost 6 mos old (arms swaddled only the last few mos) and never busted out.

My DS still flails his arms and it wakes him. I've tried no swaddle a few nights but I get the worst night's sleep. What will happen when he's in his own room in a crib? I don't want to be running in there all night.

Are there other swaddles I should try now that he's bigger and busting out of the miracle blanket? Anything they make bigger that will keep him in tight?

He STTN as long as he doesn't wake himself from the flailing arms.

I HATE change. I wish he could stay swaddled and in the rock n play forever!

Any tips appreciated.
DD was the most amazing sleeper so I have nothing to compare it to. Once she was out - she was out for 12 hrs straight. Never heard a peep from her til morning.

ETA: My son is BIG. At 4 mos old he's almost 20 lbs. Is he just too big to be swaddled?

I was going to give you a list of "swaddling things" that we used, but then I just saw how big your son is. My girls are under 20 lbs at 15 months old. We swaddled them till they were almost 10 months old/7.5 adjusted. The only thing I could recommend is doing a double swaddle. Swaddle him with one wrap and then with a different blanket and wrap over the first.
The LC I worked with taught me a few different ways to wrap them up.

I used the miracle blanket til about 4.5 months, I tried everything to stop swaddling and she wouldn't have it so I kept her swaddled. One day she just wouldn't stop screaming (while swaddled) and that was it she was done. I think your ok until they start rolling over. My DD uses a sleepsack now.

I swaddled DD until right about 4 months, when she rolled over to her tummy in her sleep. She somehow used to break out of the miracle blanket, so we used the sleep sack swaddle. Once she rolled, we still used it with her arms out, then transitioned to a regular sleep sack. It was a rough few nights as she adjusted to not being swaddled, but she learned pretty quickly, and the startle reflex decreased.

When/how old do you stop swaddling?

We did the double swaddle b/c DD would bust out too. I used the swaddle pods with a muslin blanket over that. We swaddled her until she was about 3 or 3.5 months. We stopped because she started rolling over and the ped told me to stop then since it's not safe. It was a tough couple night since she had the crazy arms still but she eventually got used to it.

We stopped at 6 weeks but that's because no matter how I did it she would break out. She sleeps better without it.

4 weeks. DS hated being swaddled.

DD was swaddled until almost 7 months.
I kept her swaddled when we did the transition to crib from RNP
It was never an issue with her rolling over, etc
She would not sleep without it.
We slowly transitioned her to a sleep sack and she did just fine.
