fire nips!

11 days pp and my nips are on fire! The cream only provides minimal comfort. Does this last as long as I bf? I have 2 lazy latchers so I think thats part of it.

Lansinoh sells gel pads that you put in the freezer. I never had much pain but I had them in the freezer just in case. I also did lanolin after every single feeding. I would definitely work on getting the latch as deep as possible and maybe see a LC if you haven't yet (the I saw in the hospital wasn't that helpful).

BTW-I am in awe of all you ladies who bf twins!

Re: fire nips!

After about 2-3 weeks it finally stopped hurting me, but I only have one! It was weird but it was really only one side that was horrific. I would flex my feet back and forth to keep from screaming! After they toughened up I was fine and still to this day over 3 months later it doesn't hurt anymore. Hang in there!

Eta-I kept telling DH it felt like razor blades slashing my nips!

Re: fire nips!

The lc in the hospital gave me good tips but for some reason its hard to get them to open wide, especially the little princess. I'm going to give it 2 more weeks before calling a lc. Also I'm going to put the cream on after each session. I have those gel packs but I'm afraid to use them bc you have to clean it off and Id dread that pain even more!
Thanks!

Re: fire nips!

Soaking in salt water helps. Olive oil is another good moisturizer that is safe for nursing. Where are you located? There are lots of good support groups where you can see an lc for free. They can be worth their weight in gold .

this

also those creams never worked..what works best is saline spray - saturate gauze pads in it and put in a nursing pad in your bra..make sure it stays wet in between feedings...i did this for the first couple of weeks and it was better after the very first time doing it...

i was just pizzed that I learned this awesome tip with DC#3 Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: fire nips!

I am 9 weeks PP and mine just started feeling better. It took so long for my cracks to heal and to toughen up ughhh. I would wince in pain esp in the evening when sh was clustetfeeding. I saw an LC twice and both times they said she latched beautifully. I was like what the heck why does this hurt so bad. At my 6 week OBGYN check up my dr said I prob just needed more time to toughen up and to hang in there and pump if I needed a break. I also think she was just sucking so hard or clamping so hard and that's why it hurt.

I really tried everything..,airing out, cold tea bags, lanolin, lansinoh soothies and the Ameda gel soothies which seemed better than the Lansinoh ones...more money but thee directions don't say you need to wash your boobs! Anyway I even did a few dabs of antibiotic ointment but would shower and wash good before feeding. I was just so desperate for them to heal!

Hang in there hun and keep trying things. Even do different holds for nursing. I like laying down to feed just don't fall asleep!

Re: fire nips!

Ah, I remember those days. The worst were the nipple blisters he would give me. By 5 weeks , most pain subsided. I used lanolin for the cracks and warm compresses for the blisters.

Re: fire nips!

Soak them in very warm salt water. Let them air dry. Expressing some of your milk on them helps too. I'm so proud of you for bf both of your babies. Keep up the great work!!!! It will get easier. Trust me.

The thought of applying salt water sounds terrifying. Doesit burn?

Re: fire nips!

It didn't burn at all. It felt so good to let them soak. I was so upset I didn't find out about this tip until she was 8weeks.

Re: fire nips!

I just soaked them in plain warm water. No actually...HOT water. That helped. I'd alternate between that and ice packs. It WILL get better.

This will definitely get better, though if you have latch issues your best bet is probably an LC. I think DD had a bad latch becuase for the first month or so it was so painful that I'd literally be biting my lip to keep from screaming and scarring her. I REALLY should have gone to an LC but I was stubborn. Eventually things got better and it wasn't painful at all. Hang in there and don't be afraid to ask for help!

Not at all!!I would fill up small cups with salt water and let the girls soak for a minute or so (I would do longer if the babies were asleep.)
