BM storage tip
Just thought I would share I read about this months ago and started storing/freezing my BM this way. I only just started reaping the organizational benefits this week, as we only just started defrosting this milk. It is GREAT. Take a gift bag and cut a 1 in rectangle out of the bottom on one of the sides. Store the milk bags in the gift bag so the flap that you would write on is sticking out of the hole you just cut. When you go to use the milk, it is like a dispenser. The oldest is on the bottom. It also made is super easy to move/relocate the BM when we lost power during the hurricane.

I'm an e pumper. And yes it is a lot of milk. 9ish gal. I'm in the process of cutting back. This should keep them each with 1 bottle of frozen milk till they are 2. I'm trying to keep them in a bottle of fresh through the winter. My little preemies have not gotten sick yet and I hope to prolong that for as long as I can.

I have pumped through just about everything in the past 14 months. Feeding the kids, feeding myself, paying bills, driving to work. You just have to be creative and have a good hands free bra! :)

Thanks. But my supply is only ok. Im inly using the frozen milk bc it has to be rotated. it is over 6 months old. I just pump all the time for twins with a hospital grade pump and have been forever. Lol. I by no means have an over supply. I get so jealous of women who say they pump 8 oz in 15 min after nursing . 40 min later at my best I was at 6 oz and that is without a baby nursing first.

I started at 8 times a day when they were in the nicu. at 4 months I went to 7 or 8 and back to work. It depended if they woke up in the middle of the night. at 10 months I went to 6 and now at 15 months am dropping to 5, hopefully 4 soon. I only started freezing once they started really eating solids. They stopped drinking so much, but I still pumped the same. It also helped/helps that they never took over 4oz a bottle. I worked with an AMAZING LC who has supported me through this.

Re: BM storage tip
That's pretty cool!
Can I ask you a question? How long does your frozen milk last in the freezer? I pumped a lot to freeze while I was home on maternity leave and I just started having daycare use one bag of frozen milk a day to move through the older supply. Turns out they had to basically get rid of ALL of my August milk because it was bad. Either it smelled bad or dd would outright REFUSE it even if it smelled fine. September seems fine so far, though. I thought in daycare's deep freezer the milk would have lasted much longer! I did go through an issue with my own freezer at some point when the temperature went WAY down and I had to run all the milk to daycare...maybe it just went bad during that time.

Does your DD ever drink frozen milk? If not, you may not know it but you could have high lipase in your milk which makes it taste metallic or soapy after freezing. Maybe defrost some at home and taste it?

Yes, she has been taking the September milk. But thanks for the tip - I'll taste and see if it tastes weird.
