Start with fruit or veggies?
We just started oatmeal. My little one is 19weeks and we were told to introduce one new thing a week- wether a fruit or a veg. We started oatmeal 1x a day for first week. So come next week we go to 2x a day oatmeal and a fruit or veg mixed. Then week 3 we go to 3x a day. Eventually the pediatrician wants is at 3x a day: 1/3 oatmeal 1/3 fruit 1/3 veg: all mixed together. Does this sound right?

Start with fruit or veggies?
Different thoughts.... you could go fruit, vege, fruit vege for a different mix you could start with all veges b/c fruit is sweeter and they might not like veges after fruit you could do fruits then veges.
I did fruit vege fruit vege. I did it straight - didn't mix with cereal b/c I wanted DS to get used to each taste.

Start with fruit or veggies?
i skipped fruit and stuck with veggies.. carrots are sweet enough and really i wanted to be sure she chose veggies over sugar. Ironically (and NO I dont think it is related) to this day she'll choose veggie over fruit.

We started with veggies. Something like carrots or sweet potato are a good first vegetable. Don't make the same mistake as me - we started with string beans and she gagged (from taste, not texture!)

Re: Start with fruit or veggies?
I started with the veges because my ped said once they taste the fruit they may not want to go to veges. GOD was that man right. Once DD started fruits, she never ate a vege again. To this day!!

Re: Start with fruit or veggies?
We did all the main veggies before moving on to fruit. I thought the theory about them liking sweet fruits over veggies made sense. Luckily DD is not picky and will eat just about anything.

We started with a veggie (sweet potato) and then alternated each week veggie/fruit.

We started with fruit. She was not a good eater until recently ( 8 months) and eats everything except for green beans.

Start with fruit or veggies?
I started with oatmeal. Then after 3 days added fruits and veggies in whatever order I wanted. It took a few days for her to get the hang of it but now she loves everything I give her. I waited a few weeks to add the second meal and will add a 3rd around 8 months.
I think the order of some of the first things were banana, squash, avocado, apples, sweet potato, and green beans. DD gobbles up green beans and peas like they're candy. Freaks my husband out!

I think the fruit-veg-fruit-veg sounds like a good plan. How much would you give?

Does gerber have a squash? Is it in the supported sitter group?

Re: Start with fruit or veggies?
Every ped has different thoughts on starting solids. I say go with what you feel comfortable with and what your DC is comfortable with. They don't NEED solids until after 12 months, so it's not something you really have to push.
I personally chose to start with veggies before fruits. I did two veggies or so and then did a fruit. I wanted her to learn to like veggies before getting all the sweetness of fruits. DD is a great eater and loves her veggies at 17 months.

Re: Start with fruit or veggies?
DD's ped gave a list of fruits and veggies that he was okay with us starting. It included fruits and veggies. He didn't care about the order. However, it didn't include the green veggies at first. Now we are allowed to give them to her, and I'm afraid that she won't take them, because she has only had sweet stuff. I gave her apples first, then bananas, carrots, peaches, squash, pears, sweet potato...

HAHA, I don't like peas either. I also despise bananas, but I figure I should feed db everything and let her decide and hopefully not pass on my food dislikes to her.
And I see your question below about squash - Gerber Naturals does make it and dd went NUTS for it when I gave it to her. Definitely her favorite food so far. It was on my Ped's list of first foods.
